View Urgent ForecastLast month, I can say with confidence that I contributed to the staggering $465 million spent globally on games developed and published by none other than Microsoft. It seems they reigned supreme among all publishers last month!
It’s not too unexpected – Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was the primary catalyst for the company’s sales in December, as one would anticipate. Additionally, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which received positive feedback, was introduced during the same period.
Approximately two out of every three dollars spent by consumers on Microsoft’s video games in December were for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. This significant spending can largely be attributed to Black Ops 6, although it may also contribute to Xbox’s decision to release their games on competing platforms.
In December, Xbox outperformed EA (Electronic Arts), earning approximately $366 million, primarily due to the success of EA Sports FC 25.
After acquiring ZeniMax Media (Bethesda) and Activision Blizzard, we anticipate that Xbox won’t just be leading in software sales by December 2024; rather, it’s likely that there will be multiple instances where Xbox dominates this market in the future. The company’s strategic move towards multi-platform launches is also expected to contribute significantly to its success.
