Xbox has games, finally.
Over the past ten years, Xbox’s in-house game content seemed to falter a bit. However, Microsoft’s series of acquisitions such as Activision-Blizzard, ZeniMax, and independent studios like Obsidian have significantly turned things around for Xbox. Now, it’s clear that Microsoft is finding its groove with first-party content. This development couldn’t be more timely for gamers using Windows PC and the Xbox Series X|S. To add to the excitement, all these games can be accessed at no extra cost through Xbox Game Pass, making it an even more attractive option.
These recent popular titles such as Avowed and Indiana Jones: The Great Circle have been instrumental in garnering positive reviews for Xbox, while games like Forza Horizon 5 and Age of Empires II are preparing for their debut on PlayStation 5. So, what’s next?
More recently, Xbox content producer and visual artist @Klobrille has shared an informative graphic that provides a comprehensive preview of the upcoming Xbox games, offering insights into both the short-term and long-term game landscape.
Indeed, the diagram you see lists games we’re already familiar with. Lately, there have been hints from Blizzard President Johanna Faries suggesting that they might be taking new risks before their Blizzcon event, and whispers abound about a possible remake of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion being imminent as well.
So, so many Xbox games

Some games on this list appear to be making good progress, with Fable showing off impressive pre-alpha footage recently, hinting at high-quality action combat promised by Playground Games. We’ve also previewed Perfect Dark and Clockwork Revolution in the past. However, others are more enveloped in mystery. Contraband was announced quite some time ago, with documents suggesting it aimed for a 2021 release window – that was before the pandemic hit. It remains unclear what Rare’s “Everwild,” Hideo Kojima’s “OD,” and Ninja Theory’s “Project Mara” involve, and games like Blade and The Elder Scrolls VI have yet to reveal any gameplay.
Among the upcoming games that have piqued our interest are Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3. The former transports us to the initial stages of the war against the Locust horde, while the latter seems poised to validate the concepts introduced in State of Decay 1 and 2, potentially limited only by its technological capabilities and budget. It’s likely that we will get a comprehensive look at both games during Xbox’s yet-to-be-announced June Showcase, an event that has grown to be a significant marketing highlight of the summer.
