I’m currently observing the exciting news about the upcoming reboot of “Yaiba: Samurai Legend,” which is a fresh take on Gosho Aoyama’s cherished manga and anime series. Recently, they’ve unveiled a new trailer and poster for this reboot, gearing up for its launch this Spring. If you remember, Gosho Aoyama, the genius behind “Detective Conan,” first introduced Yaiba in the late 1980s through Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. This manga later inspired a 52-episode anime adaptation that aired in the early 1990s. As Shogakukan continues to breathe new life into their timeless classics like “Ranma 1/2” and “Urusei Yatsura,” Yaiba is joining the ranks with its own reboot.
The upcoming anime, titled “Yaiba: Samurai Legend“, is a fresh adaptation of Gosho Aoyama’s original “Yaiba” manga, starting from the very first chapters. Set to debut in Japan this April as part of the Spring 2025 anime lineup, excitement for the new series is building with the release of a brand-new trailer (which you can watch in the video above) and a new poster for the reboot (see below). As we move closer than ever before to the launch of this exciting new anime, fans are eagerly awaiting its premiere.
When Does Yaiba: Samurai Legend Come Out?
The action-packed anime series, “Yaiba: Samurai Legend,” set to debut on April 5th in Japan, has been acquired for an English language adaptation by Viz Media. However, they have not yet disclosed their plans for international streaming at this time. Takahiro Hasui is directing the reboot at Wit Studio, with Touko Machida penning the series’ scripts, Yoshimichi Kameda designing the characters, and both Yutaka Yamada and Yoshiaki Dewa contributing to the music composition. The opening theme is “Blade,” sung by Blue Encount, which can be heard in the latest trailer.
Previously, it was announced that the voice cast for “Yaiba: Samurai Legend” included Minami Takayama as Yaiba Kurogane, Manaka Iwami as Sayaka Mine, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Takeshi Onimaru, Katsuyuki Konishi as Kenjuro Kurogan, Junichi Suwabe as Musashi Miyamoto, Isshin Chiba as Kagetora, and Kosuke Echigoya as Shonosuke. In the latest trailer, we see new additions to the cast: Atsushi Miyauchi voices Raizo Mine, Rina Sato plays Shizuka Mine, Kimiko Saito is Fuji Mine, Takeharu Onishi portrays Gerozaemon Geroda, Shuhei Sakaguchi takes on Mr. Spider, Kana Ichinose becomes Mr. Sea Cucumber, and Go Inoue assumes the role of Kojiro Sasaki.
What Is Yaiba: Samurai Legend About?
Regarding the anticipated reboot of the “Yaiba: Samurai Legend” anime series, “The main character, Yaiba (Kurogane Yaiba), is a rebellious samurai boy who learns his craft in the jungle under his father Kenjuro. A twist of fate brings him back to Japan, where he encounters his rival Takeshi Onimaru, another samurai spirit just like his own, in a fresh battlefield. Yaiba’s life is filled with fierce competition, but when Onimaru acquires the ‘Legendary Demon Sword’, he embarks on an exciting and action-packed journey…
Shogakukan has been one of the publishers reviving their iconic franchises through new anime series as part of their centennial anniversary celebration a few years back, and “Yaiba” is just another attempt in this direction. This fresh anime not only appeals to fans of the original series but also serves as an excellent entry point for potential newcomers to dive into the world of “Yaiba”.
