Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut Voice Actors Say New Cutscenes Are “Refreshing”, Bring “Closure”

The “Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut” is set to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside its launch on June 5th, offering an array of fresh content. In a recently released video, the voice actors for the game’s characters – Takaya Kuroda (Kazuma Kiryu), Hidenari Ugaki (Goro Majima), Kazuhiro Nakaya (Akira Nishikiyama), and Hitoshi Ozawa (Daisaku Kuze) – have shared their thoughts. They mentioned that the additional cutscenes in the Director’s Cut provide a sense of “refreshing” renewal and bring “closure” to some characters, as reported by Automaton Media.

In the context of Yakuza 0, Ugaki mentioned that some fresh scenes revealed to him an emotional depth about Majima’s feelings towards Makoto – specifically, how deeply he cherishes her and his desire to safeguard her. Throughout the game, Majima is on a quest to uncover why Makoto is endangered by various yakuza clans. Ugaki noted that the new Director’s Cut cutscenes delve deeper into the bond between Majima and Makoto.

Ozawa commented on how additional scenes in the game offer a deeper look into Kiryu and Kuze’s relationship. He stated, “Certain aspects between them were hinted at in Yakuza 0, but not fully explained – Kuze’s new dialogue helped me understand, ‘Ah, I see now.’ Throughout this storyline, Kuze serves as a significant obstacle for Kiryu, and much of the plot revolves around Kiryu trying to uncover the significance behind an empty lot in Kamurocho.

In the updated version of Yakuza 0, additional scenes are expected to provide a smoother transition from the end of this game to the beginning of its sequel in the series timeline – specifically, Yakuza/Yakuza Kiwami. Unlike the storyline of Yakuza 0, which is set in 1988, the subsequent game leaps forward to 1995 before delving into its narrative from 2005 onwards. As a prequel, Yakuza 0 offers a wealth of character development for key characters such as protagonist Kazuma Kiryu and others like Akira Nishikiyama and Goro Majima.

In addition to fresh story scenes, the Director’s Cut of Yakuza 0 introduces a brand-new multiplayer mode called Red Light Raid. This exciting new feature lets players choose their character from an extensive roster that spans almost the entire cast of Yakuza 0. Once selected, they can face off against hordes of enemies in battle.

This month, fresh trailers for the Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut have been unveiled, highlighting the latest English voiceovers – with Yong Yea portraying Kiryu and Matthew Mercer embodying Majima – along with a sneak peek at the primary theme song for the game. Take a look!

Initially launched in 2015, Yakuza 0 primarily unfolds two significant narratives: one detailing how Kiryu earned his moniker as the Dragon of Dojima, and another chronicling Majima’s rise to become known as the Mad Dog of Shimano. These tales occasionally overlap, as both characters strive to uncover mysteries concealed within seemingly ordinary elements such as an empty parcel of land or a blind girl.

The most recent game in the franchise was Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
