Yakuza Wars Trademarked by Sega in Japan

As a seasoned gamer with years of Yakuza series under my belt, the whispers about Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s next venture have left me eagerly scratching the virtual itch on my gaming controller. The hint dropped by Sega, the Yakuza Wars trademark registration in Japan, has sent ripples of anticipation through our community.

After Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has passed by, the noise of curiosity about what Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio might unveil next is increasing, and it seems we might have received a subtle clue about their upcoming project.

On Twitter, @Wario64 noticed that Sega has registered a trademark for “Yakuza Wars” in Japan. Previously known as “Yakuza” in the West, this name was used for the “Like a Dragon” franchise until recently. The details of the project are unclear from the filing, but given the name, it could range from a tactics spinoff to a game similar to “Dynasty Warriors”.

It’s worth noting that when Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio discussed their upcoming game last month, they hinted that fans might find it surprising. The details of the game are yet to be revealed, but we can expect it to be uncovered during the Tokyo Game Show in September.

Later in the year, on October 24, Like a Dragon: Yakuza will also premiere on Amazon Prime.
