As a seasoned traveler who’s spent countless tides navigating Teyvat’s diverse landscapes, I can confidently say that Yelan, the Siren of the Storm-Swept Sea, is a gem in any team composition. Her unique abilities and versatile playstyle make her an excellent off-field DPS, capable of dealing significant damage without stealing the spotlight from your main DPS.
As a devoted fan, I’d like to share my take on Yelan, a dynamic Hydro DPS character who seamlessly blends rapid assaults with agile mobility. By utilizing her Lifeline, she can swiftly traverse the battlefield, tagging enemies as I pass by. This action inflicts Hydro damage on marked adversaries and has a predetermined probability of reactivating her Breakthrough state, which enhances her subsequent Charged Shot. Her Elemental Burst brings forth the Exquisite Throw, offering aid to my active character in combat, consistently dealing Hydro damage. This guide is grounded on the Community Character Builds by the Genshin Helper Team.
Skills Overview
Normal Attack: Stealthy Bowshot
Normal AttackPerforms up to 4 consecutive shots with a bow.
Execute a focused shooting technique for a stronger impact with enhanced damage. As you focus, gather water droplets onto your arrowhead. Once fully charged, release a powerful, hydro-infused arrow to deliver Water Damage.
Dives upward while releasing a barrage of arrows into the air, which then descend and explode upon hitting the ground, causing area-of-effect damage.
In a span of five seconds outside combat, Yelan enters a state called “Breakthrough”. This state reduces the charging time for her next Aimed Shot by 80%. Once fully charged, she can unleash a skill called “Breakthrough Barb”, which deals Area-of-Effect Hydro damage proportional to Yelan’s maximum health.
Elemental Skill: Lingering Lifeline
With a swift trigger, Yelan sets free a speedy trail known as her “Lifeline,” ensnaring and tagging adversaries it encounters. Once this rapid dash concludes, the Lifeline detonates, dishing out Hydro damage to the marked foes proportional to Yelan’s maximum health.
Tap
Moves a certain distance forward swiftly.
Maintain a firm grip or grasp, which causes Yelan to become more resistant to disturbances for an ongoing, swift period. During this span, Yelan has the ability to manage this quick movement and terminate it by employing this skill once more.
Furthermore, when the Lifeline detonates, it gives Yelan a 34% probability of restoring her Breakthrough status.
Max Duration (Hold): 3 seconds
CD: 10 seconds
Elemental Burst: Depth-Clarion Dice
Deals AoE Hydro DMG and creates an “Exquisite Throw,” which aids her in battle.
Exquisite ThrowFollows the character around and will initiate a coordinated attack under the following circumstances, dealing Hydro DMG based on Yelan’s Max HP:
– Can occur once every second when your active character uses a Normal Attack.
– Will occur each time Yelan’s Lifeline explodes and hits opponents.
Ascension 1: Turn Control
When the party has 1/2/3/4 Elemental Types, Yelan’s Max HP is increased by 6%/12%/18%/30%.
Ascension 4: Adapt With Ease
As long as the Exquisite Throw ability is active, your current character increases their damage output by 1%. This damage increase grows by an additional 3.5% every second, up to a maximum of 50%. If Depth-Clarion Dice is cast again during its duration, it will dispel the existing effect.
Passive Talent: Necessary Calculation
Gains 25% more rewards when dispatched on a Liyue Expedition for 20 hours.
TLDR / Rotation
As a dedicated admirer, I can’t help but share my insights about Yelan, who’s often likened to a 5-star Xingqiu. She’s got her strengths and weaknesses, but her mechanics bear a striking resemblance to the 4-star character, the bookworm. Here’s how I strategize with her:
Initially, I’d like to stress that it’s crucial to prioritize Energy Recharge when constructing Yelan’s setup, as she frequently uses her Burst to support her team. This is especially important if you don’t have her Constellation Level 1. For a comprehensive understanding of Yelan’s Energy requirements and the number of skills she needs to perform in a single rotation to replenish her Burst Energy, I recommend checking out the table provided by Keqingmains.
Talent Priorities
Burst > Skill > Normal Attack*
Yelan is a DPS character who specializes off the battlefield and can generate Hydro via her Elemental Burst, similar to Xingqiu’s ability. Since Yelan primarily scales on HP%, it’s best not to focus on increasing her attack percentage when building her. To keep her Elemental Burst active, she requires a high amount of Energy Recharge. This requirement may decrease if your team includes multiple Hydro characters or energy providers.

1) Elegy for the End (ATK: 608 • Energy Recharge: 55.1%)
A segment of the “Millennial Movement” that moves with the wind.
2) Favonius Warbow (ATK: 454 • Energy Recharge: 61.3%)
Each time Critical Strikes connect, there’s a probability between 60% and 100% that they produce a modest quantity of Elemental Particles. These particles then restore 6 Energy points to the character. However, this event can only happen once every 12 to 6 seconds.
3) Aqua Simulacra (ATK: 542 • CRIT DMG: 88.2%)
As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I find myself intrigued by this weapon’s unique abilities. The HP boost and damage increase when opponents are near are features that can truly make a difference in battles, especially for characters who often find themselves surrounded on the field.
4) Sacrificial Bow (ATK: 565 • Energy Recharge: 30.6%)
Following an application of your Elemental Skill on an adversary, there’s a probability of 40% to 80% that the skill’s cooldown will be automatically reset. This event can only happen once every 30 seconds to 16 seconds.
5) Silvershower Heartstrings (ATK: 542 • HP: 66.2%)
With the equipped character, acquiring the Remedy can bestow an advantage. When they have 1, 2, or 3 Remedy boosts, their Maximum Health (HP) might grow by 12%, 24%, or 40% respectively, capping at 48% and 80%. Each Remedy boost is acquired when specific conditions are met: one boost for every 25 seconds following the use of an Elemental Skill, one boost for every increase in Bond of Life value, and one boost for every 20 seconds during healing activities. Even if the equipped character is off the field, these boosts can still be activated. Each boost’s duration is tracked individually. Furthermore, when all three stacks are active, the Elemental Burst Critical Rate (CRIT) will rise by 28% to 56%. This bonus will expire after 4 seconds if fewer than three stacks remain active.
6) Mouun’s Moon (ATK: 565 • ATK 27.6%)
Boosting the character’s Elemental Burst damage, this weapon increases it by 0.12% to 0.24% for every unit of the entire party’s total Energy capacity. This enhancement can potentially boost the Elemental Burst damage up to 40% or 80%. It performs optimally at Refinement 3 and above, making HP% artifacts from the Goblet piece more advantageous over Hydro Bonus, particularly in compositions with high damage percentage buffs.
7) Hunter’s Path (ATK: 542 • CRIT Rate: 44.1%)
Obtain a bonus of between 12% and 24% on all elemental damage. Activate the Tireless Pursuit effect by landing a charged attack on an enemy. This effect amplifies charged attack damage by 160% to 320%, depending on your Elemental Mastery. The effect will disappear after you perform 12 charged attacks or 10 seconds have passed. Only one instance of Tireless Pursuit can be activated every 12 seconds.
8) Fading Twilight (ATK: 565 • Energy Recharge: 30.6%)
As a seasoned adventurer with years of combat under my belt, I’ve come to appreciate the power and versatility that a well-crafted weapon can bring to the battlefield. One such weapon I recently obtained is known as Evengleam, Afterglow, and Dawnblaze. These three states not only give this sword an elegant name but also boost my damage output significantly – by 6%, 10%, and 14% in Evengleam, Afterglow, and Dawnblaze respectively.
9) Recurve Bow (ATK: 354 • HP: 46.9%)
Defeating an opponent restores 8~16% HP.
