Yellowjackets Season 3 Reveals First Cast Photos and One of Them is Devastating

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating through various timelines and narratives, I can’t help but feel a strange sense of familiarity when it comes to the upcoming Season 3 of Yellowjackets. The teaser images, pairing the teen and adult characters, are reminiscent of those in-game cutscenes that show the character’s past and present selves, each carrying their own unique struggles.

In early 2025, Season 3 of the TV series “Yellowjackets” will be back on Paramount+ and Showtime. Recently, we’ve been given a sneak peek at the cast through a collection of photos that showcase both the teen and adult iterations of the characters. However, one set of portraits serves as a chilling reminder of the significant changes coming in Season 3. These captivating images were shared by Vanity Fair on Thursday and provide eerie glimpses of Shauna, Lottie, Misty, Van, Taissa, and Natalie from both timeframes. Notably, only young Natalie – portrayed by Sophie Thatcher – is featured in adult Natalie’s (Juliette Lewis) absence, following her shocking death at the end of Season 2.

Despite not being able to reveal much about the third season of the acclaimed series “Yellowjackets,” cocreator Ashley Lyle assures fans that the answers they’ve been waiting for will eventually be revealed. Get an exclusive sneak peek at season three of the Emmy-nominated show here:

At the conclusion of Season 2, two intriguing plot points unfolded regarding the character, Natalie. In the past timeline, teen Natalie is chosen by the wilderness and becomes the new leader, known as the “Antler Queen.” Meanwhile, in the present timeline, adult Natalie meets an untimely end when Misty (played by Christina Ricci) mistakenly injects her with phenobarbital following an attempt to protect Lisa (Nicole Maines). This surprising death left fans reeling, but as series co-creator Ashley Lyle hints, there are still many stories yet to be told about young Natalie.

Lyle shared with Vanity Fair, “These photographs evoke a sense of solitude and sorrow, yet they mirror our own lives in a haunting way. In essence, each of us carries a version of ourselves who has passed away, a mystery wrapped in time, unknown to us when or why it will happen. Yet, this doesn’t diminish the importance of who we are today.

Lyle elaborated, “When crafting her character this season, we never pondered or discussed, ‘Will it influence how we write or perceive Nat’s character?’ The consensus was always a resounding no. We adore her character immensely. It plays a significant role in the 25 years we haven’t seen yet. However, there’s something incredibly poignant and thought-provoking about her predicament, hinting at an existential fear of being isolated, anticipating our destinies.

What Can We Expect from Season 3 of Yellowjackets?

Beyond the events that transpire in the wilderness, Season 2 concluded with their solitary shelter, the cabin, inexplicably burning down, leaving them vulnerable to the harsh elements once more. In Season 3, we delve deeper into the enigma surrounding the occurrences out there and continue the contemporary narrative following Natalie’s sorrowful demise. Lyle hints that Season 3 will provide answers to some significant questions the series has raised so far.

“There are at least two very big questions with very clear answers,” Lyle said.

What are those questions being asked? It’s hard to say for sure, but some of the main fan queries revolve around what transpired in the wilderness that the grown-up characters don’t wish to discuss now and the enigma surrounding Taissa, especially regarding the man with no eyes scenario. Regarding the mysteries, Season 3 star Christina Ricci has hinted that it will be extremely grueling.

She remarked that this upcoming season would be more astonishingly unpredictable than the ones before, promising an intense yet comical experience. In essence, it’s set to be very “Yellowjackets-esque.

Yellowjackets Season 3 is expected to debut early 2025 on Paramount+ with Showtime.
