Yolanda Saldívar’s Parole Denied: Justice for Selena Prevails!

Yolanda Saldívar has been denied an early release.

30 years after being convicted for the murder of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, who is known as the “Queen of Tejano Music,” the singer’s former fan club president was denied parole in Texas, as reported by TopMob News on March 27, based on records from the state’s Department of Criminal Justice.

64-year-old Yolanda became eligible for early parole consideration in January, with her life sentence for murder with a deadly weapon set to be commuted on March 30th. This conviction stemmed from the incident in 1995 when she fatally shot the “Amor Prohibido” singer, who was only 23 years old at the time, at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Texas.

A few days prior to the murder, Selena and her spouse, Yolanda’s employer (named Chris Pérez), accused Yolanda of stealing funds from them, as it was alleged that she managed their boutiques and the singer’s finances.

Back in 1998, Yolanda initially challenged her conviction for murder, claiming all along that she “never meant” to kill Selena when she fired the shot that struck her from behind.

After the decision was made, the family of the Grammy-winning artist, together with her surviving spouse, released a joint statement expressing their relief that Saldívar will continue to be incarcerated.

In a post on Suzette Quintanilla’s Instagram, they expressed, “Although no action can return Selena to us, this choice serves as a reminder that justice persists in honoring the precious life that was cruelly taken away, long before its time, from us and her countless fans worldwide.

They went on to say, ‘As her family and dear ones, we stay devoted to safeguarding her legacy and making sure her tale is revered with the gravity and honor it merits.’

The family also thanked Selena’s devoted fanbase for keeping her memory alive.

Your love has been a wellspring of power and restoration for us,” the message ended. “Let’s keep honoring Selena’s life, remembering not the loss that separated us, but rather cherishing her as she continues to live in our hearts.
