Naoki Yoshida, popularly known as Yoshi-P among his fans, is no longer part of Square Enix’s board of directors. Following restructuring within the company, Yoshida appears to have been moved from his director position to an executive officer role. Given his discomfort with corporate tasks in the past, it remains uncertain whether this transition was a voluntary decision on his part.
The automaton (thanks to GamesRadar+ for the find) went through the necessary documents and found that after the immense success of Final Fantasy XIV, Yoshida was invited to sit at the high-level table. However, it appears he wasn’t too fond of this position. In 2023, he expressed his feelings to Dutch publication NRC, saying “I don’t prefer being on the board; it’s far more enjoyable to simply create games”. It seems that around that time, Yoshida attempted to step down from his position, but either was convinced or prevented from doing so.
It appears that Yoshida’s desire has been fulfilled, whether in the way we initially thought or not. Ultimately, it’s important for the creative to pursue what he truly loves and pour all his heart into it, while also mentoring future Final Fantasy creators. Let’s be patient and observe the outcome.
