Among the much-awaited occurrences during the X-Men’s stay on Krakoa was the Hellfire Gala, a gathering where high fashion among superheroes and dramatic encounters among mutants often intertwined. Both mutants and humans would attend this gala, with the event concluding in the selection of a new X-Men team. The last Hellfire Gala ended tragically when the anti-mutant group Orchis attacked, resulting in the deaths of several X-Men. Forced to flee the mutant homeland of Krakoa, they embarked on a new journey in “From the Ashes.” Yet, the spirit of Krakoa will endure in X-Men: Hellfire Vigil #1.

Exclusively, ComicBook offers a peek at the premiere issue of “X-Men: Hellfire Vigil”. In contrast to the jubilant atmosphere of the Hellfire Gala, this gathering serves as a somber reflection on the demise of the mutant nation Krakoa. The attendees aim to rekindle optimism about the future while reminiscing about the past. Similar to prior Hellfire Galas, expect a dazzling soiree marked by reunions, comebacks, and surprising disclosures, all paving the way for the ensuing year of X-Men narratives. The allure of the Hellfire Gala has expanded enough to be integrated into the latest season of the “Marvel Rivals” video game.


The initial page penned by Stephanie Phillips and Roi Mercado presents Phoenix (Jean Grey) on her spaceship, where something captures her focus, prompting Jean to dash towards the ship’s controls. Following this, Gail Simone and Luciano Vecchio take over for page 2, showcasing the X-Men and Uncanny X-Men teams setting aside their disputes to enjoy a celebration and party. On page 3, Eve L. Ewing and Federica Mancin introduce the new trio of mutants in Exceptional X-Men: Bronze, who is metallic and armed with whips; Axo, who provokes emotions; and stealthy combatant Melee. They are seen browsing Dazzler merchandise at a vendor’s stall before breaking out onto the dance floor.

Page 4, penned by Murewa Ayodele and Luciano Vecchio, starts off with a number of mutants making their entry into the Hellfire Vigil via Manifold’s portals. Subsequently, Storm delivers an inspiring, heartfelt speech to the assembly, causing them to lift their hands skyward in unison as bolts of lightning and flashes of thunder echo around the gathering. The narrative concludes with an unsaturated page by Jed MacKay, Netho Diaz, and Sean Parson, depicting a conversation between Psylocke and Cyclops, possibly discussing their decision to attend the Hellfire Vigil.



For a year now, we’ve been moving towards the Hellfire Vigil, and all the creators involved in X have joined forces to make this an important moment for the X-Men, not just individually but collectively as well.
