Even timeless films aren’t exempt from the mania surrounding popcorn buckets. As someone who appreciates cinema, I view this as a positive development – particularly when a classic like “Dogma” re-emerges in the 2025 movie lineup with a captivating concept. If you’re a devotee of Kevin Smith’s witty comedies, you might be able to guess where that development is headed. However, I doubt you knew that the inspiration for a significant part of “Dogma’s” 25th anniversary revival stemmed from none other than pop sensation Taylor Swift.

It’s quite intriguing how Taylor Swift ended up involved in this event, and I must admit, I was as taken aback as you upon reading it. However, this is precisely what Kevin Smith shared with me during our discussion about his role in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. With the resolution of the convoluted rights issue surrounding the film Dogma, I couldn’t help but ask Smith about this significant development.

Given the scheduled date of June 5th for non-roadshow screenings, this prompted the “Clerks” director to make the following statement during his conversation with TopMob.

As a film enthusiast, one of the first discussions Alessandra [Williams], our savior of Dogma, and I had was about the next steps for our movie – should we approach studios or sell it to them? But then I thought, just like Taylor Swift cleverly bypassed the studios by striking a deal directly with AMC, we could do the same. So, that’s what we did! And guess what? The tour for our film so far has been exclusively at AMC Theaters. When we release on June 5th, it will primarily be shown on AMC screens, and other theaters have followed suit as well.

Being disappointed that I missed the opportunity to attend the “Dogma” roadshow in my local area, I can attest that when the list of tour dates was posted, it was exclusively AMC Theatres locations. However, with AMC Theaters being renowned for creating outstanding concession collectibles such as the hammer-shaped popcorn bucket from “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” the expectations are quite high for this religious artifact to meet that standard.

Currently, it’s likely that a distinct symbol from the View Askewniverse will soon become the main feature of this suggested ship, much like the crowd at the latest Dogma screening at Cannes Film Festival was not left unsatisfied.

Picture yourself visiting your local AMC Theatres and having the opportunity to eat popcorn from none other than the Son of God himself, in the form of Buddy Christ. This is essentially what director Kevin Smith intends for fans of his film ‘Dogma’ who attend the theater. As Smith explains in an interview with TopMob, this idea was something he thought about and planned early on in the production process.

One of the initial questions I posed to the AMC team was, ‘What are my choices for popcorn buckets?’ We’ve been having quite a conversation about [the] Buddy Christ figure, where you can scoop your popcorn from inside it. Once empty, you can fill it with holy water and place it by the door.

Currently, there’s no news on whether Kevin Smith’s “Dogma” popcorn bucket will come to fruition or not. However, with the 25th anniversary re-release of “Dogma” starting on June 5th, time is running out. Fortunately, the stakes aren’t as high as Loki and Bartleby’s quest for Armageddon, but rather the possibility of obtaining an exclusive merchandise item from Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash.
