Mary Lou Retton has landed herself into some legal trouble.

The first American female athlete to secure an individual, all-around Gold medal at the Games was apprehended on May 17 for allegedly driving while intoxicated, as evidenced by court records from the West Virginia Magistrate Court system, according to TopMob News.

Based on the court records, Mary Lou was taken into custody and faced charges for “driving while intoxicated by alcohol, medications, or narcotics”; the potential penalties were also outlined. The 57-year-old individual posted a personal recognizance bond of $1,500 later on the same day.

TopMob News has reached out to reps for Mary Lou but has not yet heard back.

Less than two years ago, the gymnast filed a lawsuit, following an unexpected health crisis when she contracted a severe type of pneumonia in autumn 2023, which necessitated intensive care unit (ICU) treatment.

At that point in time, McKenna Kelley, Mary Lou’s 28-year-old daughter (also a child with ex-husband Shannon Kelley), was regularly updating friends and family about her mother’s health status via social media. This included daughters Shayla Kelley (30 years old), Skyla Kelley (24 years old), and Emma Kelley (22 years old).

In a Spotfunder fundraiser post, McKenna wrote that her mother “is critically ill and requires constant medical support to breathe.” She has been hospitalized in the ICU for over a week now. To honor her privacy and dignity, McKenna will not reveal all the specific details.

Mary Lou’s daughter mentioned that, during this period, the Olympic athlete didn’t have insurance and appealed for both prayers and financial contributions to assist in covering her mounting medical bills.

McKenna mentioned, “Any assistance at all would be incredibly beneficial for both my family and my mother.” She also expressed her heartfelt gratitude.

Several months post her recuperation, Mary Lou spoke out against the criticism McKenna and her other daughters faced due to their fundraising efforts.

In May 2024, Mary Lou expressed on Entertainment Tonight that they didn’t receive what they deserved. She emphasized that they were merely looking after her, disregarding the negative opinions of some people. She acknowledged the presence of critics and trolls, stating that they are common in today’s society, reflecting the diversity of opinions. However, she concluded by accepting things as they are.

Mary Lou pointed out that the extended stay in the ICU resulted in bills that continued to arrive for several months afterwards, expressing that many might not fully comprehend the high cost of her treatment.

However, despite facing opposition, the Olympic athlete acknowledged the crucial role her daughters played in supporting her during that period.

1. She countered by saying, “I respect your viewpoint, but you haven’t been through what I have experienced.” She added, “It was my daughters who came to my aid in a critical moment, and their love and encouragement kept me going.”

2. In response, she stated, “Your opinion is valid, but it doesn’t take into account the situation I faced.” She went on to say, “My daughters were there for me during a challenging time, and their unwavering love and support played an essential role in my survival.”

3. She asserted, “I acknowledge your perspective, yet it fails to consider the circumstances I encountered.” She continued, “In a life-or-death situation, it was my daughters who stood by me, and their love and backing helped keep me alive.”

In April 2025, the former cast member of “Beverly Hills, 90210” shared that he was recuperating following an operation due to a close call with an almost-burst appendix.

A week ago, Brian shared on Instagram that he began experiencing abdominal discomfort. This led him to visit the hospital emergency room, where it was discovered that his appendix was about to rupture, although it hadn’t quite done so yet.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

Previously on Bachelor Nation, this participant revealed that he sought medical attention at the hospital because of intense back pain, which worsened while he was traveling in an RV together with his companion. He described his journey to the hospital as crawling on all fours due to the severity of the discomfort.

In the March 2025 episode of his “Trading Secrets” podcast, he remarked, “Even as I speak, from knees to toes, it’s oddly numb, which is surprising.” To provide some context, let me clarify that just a few weeks or perhaps a month ago, I was squatting an impressive 295 pounds. Now, I struggle to do even a single-legged squat without falling over, as if I’ve experienced some kind of injury, like a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

In December 2024, a player in the AHL had his skin sewn up with 25 stitches when another player’s skate accidentally sliced him during a game. After he fully recovered, his father, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald, expressed gratitude to ESPN, saying, “We consider ourselves fortunate. I wouldn’t wish such an ordeal on any parent.

Back in February 2025, the former star of “Even Stevens” revealed that she was accidentally shot in the face during a clay pigeon shooting trip, which they had organized to celebrate her husband, Brendan Rooney’s birthday.

In a post on Instagram, she shared that another person at our gathering accidentally fired their weapon incorrectly, striking me in the face. Instantly, @thebrendanrooney took charge, evaluated my injuries, and swiftly rushed me to the hospital. I was wounded in five spots, with one bullet being mere inches away from hitting me directly in my right eye.

The former star of “Kim Possible” went on to say, “Regrettably, a piece became stuck at the back of my eye, and it’s not safe to operate surgically right now. My doctors are keeping close tabs on me for now, but I can see fine as is.

The actress expressed her heartfelt appreciation for being alive, stating that she holds her daughters, husband, family, and friends very dear. She recounted a moment when she felt like she was glimpsing her life in review, emphasizing the importance of embracing those close to us whenever we have the opportunity, as life can unexpectedly take a turn.

In my expertise as a lifestyle advocate, I can say that while the digital world isn’t always a gentle space, I’m thankful it played a role in helping me uncover some answers during a challenging time.

Reflecting on a 2025 episode of Call Her Daddy, I recall a moment when the internet seemed to express concerns about my appearance. Initially, I asked everyone to take a step back and relax, but then medical professionals joined the conversation in the comments section, suggesting that something might be amiss with my health.

At first, I found myself being ‘trolled’ by doctors! But upon further investigation, these experts pointed out that my physical appearance was consistent with Cushing syndrome, potentially caused by elevated cortisol levels or steroid injections. This realization hit me – I had been receiving steroid injections to treat scars from previous procedures such as a breast reduction and a C-section.

So, it turned out that the internet’s relentless scrutiny actually helped me discover a health issue I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. Now, after learning that my specific type of Cushing syndrome will resolve itself and I’m in good health, I can’t help but feel grateful for the role the digital world played in uncovering this diagnosis.

Hailey Bieber experienced a terrifying ordeal in March 2022 while having breakfast with her husband Justin Bieber. As she began to exhibit symptoms similar to a stroke, she found herself struggling to respond or speak properly. Her right side of the face drooped, and she was unable to complete a sentence.

Hailey shared this experience on YouTube about a month later, detailing how Justin had asked if she was okay, but she couldn’t respond immediately. Upon trying to respond, she found that speech was difficult. Thankfully, the facial drooping stopped, and her speech returned, prompting Hailey to visit the hospital for precautionary measures.

Upon examination, doctors discovered a small blood clot in her brain, which they classified as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Further tests at the University of California, Los Angeles, revealed that Hailey had a hole in her heart known as patent foramen ovale (PFO). The blood clot traveled through this hole into her heart, escaped and reached her brain, causing the TIA.

Hailey underwent a successful PFO closure procedure and reported feeling well since then.

Last year, when Hailey went through her health crisis, I too faced my own health challenge – Ramsay Hunt syndrome. This rare condition affected the nerves in my ear and parts of my face, causing temporary paralysis and necessitating the cancellation of the rest of my Justice World Tour.

In an Instagram video, I shared that this virus had caused facial paralysis, making it impossible for me to blink one eye, smile on one side of my face, or move one nostril. “As you can see,” I said, “this side of my face is completely paralyzed.” I also mentioned that eating became increasingly difficult due to the condition. However, with time, the paralysis subsided.

Hailey shared her thoughts on my situation during a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America, expressing that I was doing well and felt much better. She acknowledged that it had been a scary and unexpected event but emphasized that I would make a full recovery. She was grateful that I was okay.

Initially, Jamie Foxx chose not to disclose the details of his April 2023 hospitalization. However, in his 2024 Netflix special titled “What Had Happened Was…,” he shared his harrowing experience. One day in Atlanta, he said, “I was experiencing such a severe headache that I asked my friend for an aspirin.” Unfortunately, before he could receive the medication, he collapsed and lost consciousness for 20 days.

A doctor initially treated him with a cortisone shot and sent him home. However, his sister, Deidra Dixon, noticed something was wrong and took him to another hospital. There, they discovered that he had suffered a brain bleed which resulted in a stroke.

Twenty days after the operation, Foxx woke up on May 4 in a wheelchair, unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. “I want to express my gratitude for every prayer,” he said, “as I truly felt their power during those difficult times.

In 2019, actress Emilia Clarke penned an essay for The New Yorker titled “A Battle for My Life,” which followed her battle scenes in Game of Thrones. During a workout at the gym, she suddenly fell ill, describing it as being violently sick and experiencing intense, agonizing pain that she later identified as damage to her brain.

Hospital tests revealed she had a life-threatening type of stroke called a subarachnoid hemorrhage, caused by bleeding around the brain. Emilia underwent immediate surgery to seal the aneurysm, which she described as excruciatingly painful. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia and found herself speaking nonsensical words.

A week later, her aphasia subsided, and she was discharged from the hospital after a month. However, in 2013, a follow-up brain scan showed that the growth had doubled in size, requiring another surgery. Upon waking from the procedure, she recalled being in intense pain as the doctors explained that her chances of survival were slim if they didn’t operate again. This time, they needed to access her brain through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia is now reportedly “at 100%.

Cori Broadus, the daughter of renowned artist Snoop Dogg, expresses her gratitude towards her family.

Following a serious stroke she experienced in January 2024, her loved ones promptly gathered by her side.

“I sent them a text and picture saying I had a stroke,” she recounted to TopMob News‘ correspondent Will Marfuggi in December 2024. “Everyone rushed to help me.”

Due to other health complications, Cori’s hospital stay extended beyond her initial expectations.

“I could have been discharged after the stroke,” the star of Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story explained further. “However, my lupus wasn’t responding well, and my kidneys were failing. It was a challenging time.”

Currently, Cori is recovering.

“I’m doing well,” she updated. “I just needed to regain some motor skills. Apart from that, I was okay.

In the early 20s of her life, Shailene Woodley’s health took a turn for the worse. Her struggles included losing hearing capacity, experiencing fatigue after short walks, and stomach problems upon consuming food. She was diagnosed with various issues by different doctors, but these diagnoses didn’t provide much relief.

To find answers, Shailene, who has a background in holistic healing and herbalism, sought help from both conventional medical professionals (MDs) and independent healers. This quest for wellness took over a decade.

During this prolonged period, Shailene also grappled with mental health issues that stemmed from her physical discomfort. She developed fear of food, which led to body dysmorphia, confusion about identity, and feelings of insecurity and uncertainty regarding her own body.

After addressing both her physical and mental health concerns, Shailene reported feeling much improved. “It was a journey that eventually resolved physically, and I am now very healthy,” she stated with relief.
