Savannah Chrisley got the call of a lifetime when she least expected it.

Shortly following President Donald Trump’s call to inform Chrisley Knows Best alum of her parents Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley’s forthcoming pardon for their tax evasion and bank fraud charges, she disclosed that she received this welcome news in an unexpected location.

A 27-year-old shared a video on Instagram on May 27, stating that the President personally contacted them while they were entering Sam’s Club. The President informed them that he was finalizing clemency documents for their parents. As a result, both parents are expected to return home either tonight or tomorrow. Despite this incredible news, the individual is struggling to accept it as reality and is overwhelmed with excitement.

Additionally, Savannah mentioned that she and her family – comprising of siblings Chase Chrisley (28), Grayson Chrisley (19), as well as Todd’s children Lindsie Chrisley (35) and Kyle Chrisley (33) from his previous marriage to Teresa Terry – are getting ready for the upcoming return of their parents.

She mentioned that we are gathering some outfits for both mom and dad, arranging their bedroom on the upper floor,” she exclaimed, left speechless.

Shortly after the pardon was announced, Savannah spoke out about the president’s act of goodwill.

For the last two and a half years, I’ve been tirelessly working to secure my parents’ release and reunite our family. Today, this long-awaited dream has become a reality, and I am deeply thankful to President Trump for recognizing the truth and making it possible. (This statement was made to TopMob News.)

Savannah also noted that she intends to help others receive the same good fortune that she did.

Today marks a triumph for our household, yet our struggle against unjust imprisonments and miscarriages of justice in the penal system remains ongoing. I am committed to employing my voice and influence to champion the rights of those who currently lack representation.

Keep reading for a closer look at Todd and Julie’s legal saga.

In August 2019, Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley were officially accused by a federal grand jury in Atlanta on 12 separate charges. These charges encompassed offenses such as wire fraud, conspiring to commit bank fraud, and conspiring to deceive the United States. As reported by NBC News, these allegations stemmed from incidents dating back to the mid-2000s, which included an attempt to dodge approximately $2 million in state taxes between 2008 and 2016, as well as concealing over $1 million from the Internal Revenue Service.

A day prior to the issuance of the indictment, Todd asserted that he and his spouse were not guilty, and instead, he pointed the finger at a trusted employee whom he accused of embezzling funds and extorting them.

In his Instagram post, he asserted, “We have no secrets to conceal and are unashamed of our actions. Not only do we firmly believe we’ve acted correctly, but we possess substantial proof and numerous supporting witnesses that validate this.

Three years elapsed before the stars of Chrisley Knows Best stood trial. Over the course of three weeks, they listened to various testimonies. Despite pleading not guilty, they were found guilty on all charges related to tax evasion and bank fraud on June 7, 2022.

The U.S. attorney’s office claimed that the pair, along with their accountant Peter Tarantino (who was tried alongside them), were involved in a plot to deceive banks and illegally obtain over $30 million during a period of ten years.

According to Keri Farley, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta, today’s events demonstrate that fame, wealth, and power don’t shield you from justice when you engage in deceit, fraud, and theft. In the end, their guilt on all charges serves as a reminder that financial crimes ultimately do not bring prosperity, but rather lead to punishment.

Fifteen weeks down the line, a court in the Northern District of Georgia handed me a 12-year sentence for incarceration, while Julie received a seven-year term. As for Peter, he was given a three-year prison sentence.

For approximately ten years, the accused individuals swindled banks out of a significant sum of around $50 million by engaging in fraudulent activities. At the same time, they failed to pay their federal income taxes. U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan stated this in a November 2022 announcement. The severe penalties they received demonstrate the scale of their criminal act and should caution anyone considering abusing our country’s banking system for illicit personal enrichment.

In September 2023, the lengths of both Julie’s and Todd’s sentences were reduced. Specifically, Julie is now set to be discharged a year and a half ahead of schedule, while Todd’s release date was moved forward by two years, from its original 2035 date.

Jay Surgent, their lawyer, stated to Insider in September 2023, “There’s no question that Todd and Julie are exemplary prisoners who were given unusually long sentences. At the moment, I believe Todd has been reduced to a 10-year sentence, while Julie is currently serving a five-year term.

In January 2023, the pair both began serving their individual prison terms. Todd was incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution (FPI) in Pensacola, Florida, while Julie served hers at a separate federal penitentiary located in Lexington, Kentucky.

Approximately half a year following the incarceration of both Julie and Todd, their child, Savannah Chrisley, shed light on their well-being. She disclosed that, while they were serving their sentences, there was no communication between the two.

195 days of silence between us… she expressed on her August 2023 Instagram post. My heart is heavy with sorrow… Please, lend a hand in seeking justice!

She also pushed back at rumors about their time in prison.

She found it amusing because one of them remarked, “He’s let himself go,” according to her on the Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley podcast. To start off, it’s important to note that hair dye isn’t available in prison. Therefore, it’s only natural for his hair to be gray. In fact, if she saw him now, she would tell him to keep the gray look because it suits him well and he has a talented barber in prison.

Yet, Todd shared his account of the unfair treatment he experienced at the federal prison camp in Florida, Pensacola, while confined within bars.

Todd disclosed his experiences with mistreatment at the federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida, from behind the bars where he was held captive.

He mentioned during a phone call on the December 2023 episode of Cuomo that the food was outdated. Specifically, it had surpassed its expiration date by a year.

He went on to say, “There are rats and squirrels infesting the storage facility where the food is kept. They disguised it with plastic sheets but then tore open the ceiling due to mold buildup. In doing so, they uncovered a deceased cat hidden in the ceiling, which fell onto the food pile.

In addition to the terrifying events unfolding in the cafeteria, he claimed that someone had also threatened to blackmail his loved ones.

He mentioned that a picture was taken of him as he slept and it was sent to his daughter. In the message, he requested $2,600 per month for his security.

Savannah, the guardian of her younger brothers Grayson and Chloe while their parents are incarcerated, has shared that their legal issues and absence have greatly affected her.

She revealed to TopMob News in March 2024 that the last conversation they had was when they parted ways before entering federal prison. She claimed that her father has been experiencing a great deal of retribution due to our vocal criticisms regarding the prison conditions.

In reality, she claimed that the prison authorities were preventing a significant amount of his email communication with her mother.

In my role as a lifestyle expert, I’ve found that there are moments when the richness of an experience can become overpowering. Yet, I strive to keep the focus on others and not allow it to be about me personally. However, let’s be honest, there have been times when the sheer magnitude of what I’m encountering leaves me feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Savannah shared during her April 2024 podcast, titled Unlocked, that she struggles with the sensation that both her parents and certain individuals in her own life seem to carry on living regardless of them. In essence, it feels as if they keep going about their lives without them.

She went on, “I’m finding it hard to catch my breath, and it seems like I’m constantly grappling with financial issues related to the children, or the challenges of being a parent, not forgetting the complexities of my personal relationships.

In June 2024, a three-judge panel from the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Julie’s seven-year prison sentence, finding that the judge in her 2022 trial had incorrectly calculated her sentence as a reality star. Despite upholding her convictions, the court decided that the sentencing error needed to be rectified.

In their decision, the judges noted that the district court failed to specify the evidence it used to convict Julie for losses prior to 2007. As we cannot locate this evidence in the records ourselves, they have decided to overturn Julie’s sentence and send the case back to the district court. The district court is now responsible for establishing the facts regarding the loss, restitution, and forfeiture for Julie, after which they will re-sentence her accordingly.

In simpler terms, the decision regarding the adjustment of her sentence was given to a lower court, while Todd’s sentence stayed the same.

After having her prison sentence overturned three months ago, a court in Atlanta eventually reinstated Julie’s original seven-year prison term. In a heartfelt apology, she expressed her remorse not only to the court but also to her children.

In a recent court hearing, as reported by People on September 25th, I stood before the judges and shared my thoughts. Reflecting on the past years, I’ve had ample time to contemplate what I wish I could have expressed earlier. I want to express my deepest regret for the actions and circumstances that brought us here today.

Over the past 20 months, I’ve spent time in prison, but the true reflection starts well before the trial. Once again, I offer my sincere apologies for the role my actions played in leading us to this point.

She’s made every possible effort to reconnect with her family. She’s even taken exams to learn new abilities, like operating a forklift and serving food correctly. This part of her life has been incredibly challenging. She can never fully repay her children for the hardships they’ve endured, and for that, she expresses deep regret.
