The enigma surrounding Miss Marvel’s superpowers is gradually unveiling itself. In the final episode of her Disney+ series, Miss Marvel was linked to the X-Men when she mentioned “mutation.” To emphasize this, music from X-Men: The Animated Series played in the background. Later on, comic books aligned with the Marvel Cinematic Universe by having Miss Marvel die and then revive her using Krakoa’s X-Men resurrection techniques, revealing that she is both an Inhuman and a mutant. Although we have yet to witness Miss Marvel’s mutant powers, they surprisingly emerged at a crucial moment. BEWARE: Spoilers for Giant-Size X-Men #1 ahead.

In issue #1 of “Giant-Size X-Men,” the creative team consists of Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Adam Kubert, and Laura Martin. Additionally, Al Ewing, Sara Pichelli, Federico Blee, and VC’s Clayton Cowles contribute to a backup story titled “Revelation.” The comic revolves around Ms. Marvel who is sent back in time to witness crucial moments in the X-Men’s history due to the interference of David Haller/Legion, son of Professor Charles Xavier. In an unexplained turn of events, Legion is traveling from the distant future to alter past events, and for reasons yet unknown, Ms. Marvel has been chosen to accompany him on this time-traveling journey.

Following the dissolution of Cyclops’ previous X-Men squad, they find themselves at the X-Men’s residence in Westchester, New York. This group, known as the Uncanny X-Men, consists of Nightcrawler, Thunderbird, Colossus, Storm, Banshee, Sunfire, and Wolverine – a team that first appeared in 1975’s Giant-Size X-Men #1. Recognizing her from the time when the original X-Men were transported to the present day, Cyclops invites Ms. Marvel to join this new team for a mission aimed at rescuing mutants on the island of Krakoa.

As the X-Men engage in combat with Legion, Ms. Marvel persuades Krakoa to join their team by soaring aloft and venturing into space. Legion pursues, taunting Ms. Marvel throughout the journey. “What’s a girl with elongated limbs supposed to do against our Legion?” he taunts. It is in her response where we witness her mutant abilities unfold.

Ms. Marvel Unleashes Her Mutant Powers

In the dramatic encounter, Miss Marvel unleashes her unique abilities as she delivers a powerful blow to Legion. She shapes her elastic powers into two enormous fists that emit brilliant yellow/gold energy. It appears as if sparks are shooting from her fists upon impact with Legion, and even sparks rebound from his face. The reader and Miss Marvel herself are left in awe at the unexpected turn of events. As she falls back to Earth, Miss Marvel ponders why her powers didn’t allow her to fly. However, Legion swiftly intervenes by transporting them to another moment in history, where the X-Men find themselves facing off against Jean Grey’s Dark Phoenix. The tale will continue in Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga #1.

Regarding Ms. Marvel and her powers, it’s still unclear what they entail fully. She has always had the ability to enlarge herself, but recently, she exhibits a shimmering effect accompanied by diamond forms on her hands and wrists. These new abilities seem to align with those displayed in the Ms. Marvel series on Disney+, where she crafted purple hard-light constructs. However, in this instance, her powers display a different hue, not an exact match.

The situation has raised more queries than it’s answered. Previously, Emma Frost informed Ms. Marvel that her Inhuman abilities suppressed her mutant powers, which would eventually resurface. It seems these powers have now emerged, albeit in a time that’s actually the past for us. Time travel indeed can be quite peculiar!
