For about forty years now, the initial Karate Kid movie, which premiered in 1984, has been a part of our popular culture – but more recently, the television series spin-off, Cobra Kai, has certainly revitalized this franchise.

The series, initially broadcast on YouTube Red, later acquired by Netflix starting from its third season, turned out to be a huge success. It welcomed back cherished characters from the movies along with a fresh batch of talented actors.

In a new development, Karate Kid: Legends marks the return to the screen for a fresh film since the 2010 reboot featuring Jaden Smith. This upcoming movie brings back beloved characters played by Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, while introducing Ben Wang as the talented kung fu practitioner Li Fong.

The movie plot indicates that Li Fong will be taught by both Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso how to combine Kung Fu with Karate, aiming for a spectacular martial arts confrontation.

Where and when can viewers catch the movie, and is it set to stream on Netflix? For answers, read below.

How to watch Karate Kid: Legends – is it streaming?

Starting from next year, you’ll only be able to catch Karate Kid: Legends on the big screen. It’s scheduled for a special one-time theater premiere on May 30th, 2025.

Will Karate Kid: Legends be available on Netflix?

Lately, Netflix has strongly linked itself to The Karate Kid as it’s now hosting the spin-off series Cobra Kai starting from its third season – offering all 65 episodes of this dramatic series for viewing on their platform.

Among the earlier movies in the series, some but not all have found their way onto Netflix. As of now, you can watch the original film from 1984, the third one from 1989, and the reboot from 2010. Unfortunately, The Karate Kid Part II (1986) and The Next Karate Kid (1994) are not available on Netflix at this time.

Could it be crossing your mind whether Karate Kid: Legends will stream on the platform in the UK as well? Regrettably, there is still uncertainty about this prospect.

As a film enthusiast, I’m excitedly waiting to find out if Netflix and Sony’s deal for theatrical releases to hit Netflix in the US will extend to the UK as well. For now, it remains uncertain, but I’ll keep everyone posted as soon as I hear any updates on this side of the pond.

Karate Kid: Legends digital release date speculation

The specific release date for the movie on popular streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Sky Store hasn’t been determined yet, since Sony often adjusts the duration of their theatrical exclusivity based on box office results and a variety of other considerations.

Typically, it may arrive anywhere from late June to mid-August. However, July seems more probable. Rest assured, we’ll continue to provide you with updates on any new information that comes our way.
