In the movie “Novocaine,” Jack Quaid portrays Nathan Caine, a banker who experiences no pain. Similarly, this film itself, released in 2025 and featuring Amber Midthunder, Jacob Batalon, Ray Nicholson (known for his role in “Smile 2”), is currently holding the top spot without a hint of discomfort on Paramount+ streaming platform, according to current rankings.

The gripping dark comedy and action-packed series “Novocaine” is now streaming on Paramount+, an impressive achievement given that many viewers might have been preoccupied with Tom Cruise’s spy films, particularly the latest installment, which grossed $79 million domestically in its debut, finishing second place.

As a fervent admirer, let me recount my take on the captivating tale of “Novocaine.” In this enthralling narrative, I, much like Quaid’s character Nathan Caine, am endowed with an extraordinary genetic quirk – a condition that strips me of the capacity to experience pain.

When the bank where Sherry, my cherished colleague and romantic interest, was held up, she was taken captive. Leveraging my unique condition, I embarked on a relentless pursuit of the perpetrators, an adventure teeming with heart-stopping action, brutal violence, and gut-busting humor.

Batalon portrays my trusty gaming companion in this tale, while Nicholson brings chills to our spine as one of the menacing bank robbers.

“A Gnarly Action Comedy”

He is out there, trying to rescue the woman he adores, yet he maintains a cautious lifestyle due to his unusual health condition. However, being pain-insensitive doesn’t equate to invulnerability. Quaid stated this. But, thanks to Sherry, his character Nathan begins to take chances.

“Indeed, it’s an exhilarating blend of action and comedy, yet it portrays a character emerging from his comfort zone and exploring the world for the very first time,” Quaid explained. “The ‘fish out of water’ aspect was what I aimed to perfect,” he added. In essence, this character has never before stepped foot in places like a diner or a tattoo parlor, and I treated each scene as if it were his inaugural visit to such locations.

Nate is “the Biggest Sweetie Pie”

In an interview, the actor who plays Bradward Boimler on Paramount+’s show mentioned the comedic element of the movie “Novocaine”. He stated that physical comedy is his favorite and most desired aspect, with the film “Liar Liar” having a significant impact on him. Regarding “Novocaine”, he explained, “This movie is incredibly intense, so I aim to make Nate as sweet and innocent as possible. If he’s too brooding or dark, it might be too much. Having some contrast helps balance things out,” he said.

Spectators have definitely been impressed with Quaid’s acting, as within only two weeks, “Novocaine” has climbed to the top of Paramount+’s rankings. To stream “Novocaine”, simply log in to Paramount+. Additionally, the “Mission: Impossible” series is also available for streaming on Paramount+.
