The anime adaptation of “One Piece” is now delving into Kuma’s past, taking viewers by surprise as it transports them to the mythical land of God Valley. In episode 1130, we get to see younger versions of many iconic characters from “One Piece”, both pirates and marines. Notable appearances in this episode include the Rocks Pirates, such as Kaido, Big Mom, Whitebeard, Shiki, along with Garp, Roger, Scopper Gaban, Rayleigh, and the entire crew of the former Pirate King at that time. However, what makes episode 1130 particularly intriguing is a character who has been absent from “One Piece” for almost eighteen years, and some fans might have overlooked it entirely.

Amidst the excitement about the Rocks Pirates and God Valley’s lore in One Piece, episode 1130 slipped in a subtle cameo featuring Bogard, Garp’s trusted lieutenant. In a scene at the bottom right, he is seen drawing his sword as Garp and his team prepare for battle at God Valley. This is Bogard’s first appearance in One Piece’s anime in eighteen years since before the time skip during the Post-Enies Lobby Arc. The cameo not only implies that Bogard has been with Garp for a longer period than fans suspected, but it also fuels curiosity about his character, which is often overlooked and underused.

Bogard Re-Appears in One Piece’s Anime After 18 Years

Over the course of my observation, I’ve noticed that the character of Bogard in “One Piece” has left fans puzzled for quite some time. Initially appearing as what seems to be Admiral Garp’s right-hand man back in Episode 68, he was instrumental in arresting and transporting Captain Morgan and later in training Koby and Helmeppo.

A significant gap followed, with Bogard’s next appearance not until Episode 323, during the Post Enies Lobby Arc, where I saw Garp encounter Luffy. After this, he surfaced only two years later in Chapter 0, a special chapter coinciding with the release of “Film: Strong World.” Here, Bogard was present during Garp’s meeting with Kong, indicating that he had been by Garp’s side for at least 27 years. This longevity in service has only served to deepen the mystery surrounding this enigmatic character in “One Piece.

It’s quite intriguing to note that while Bogard made his appearance in Chapter 1087 of the manga during SWORD’s attack on Fullalead, he was notably absent from Episode 1121 in the anime. As a result, Episode 1130 marks his return after a significant time gap, causing excitement among Bogard enthusiasts. Considering his prolonged absence, this latest episode does him justice by giving him a more prominent role and making him appear cooler than ever in One Piece.

Although Bogard plays a significant role in Captain Garp’s team and is one of the few who has been by his side for a long time, the series One Piece has not disclosed much about this character. Intriguingly, after the Water 7 Saga, Bogard vanished entirely from the anime, failing to make an appearance even at Marineford. At present, Bogard’s name has not been officially announced or introduced in One Piece, and he is absent from any of the series’ databooks, vivre cards, or SBS sections. His name was first mentioned in the credits of Episode 68, and a brief description of him can be found on the official One Piece website, but confirmation came only through this limited entry.

Over time, there has been a growing curiosity about Bogard, and fans are eager for more of him due to the belief that he might have untapped potential. Notably, this interest in Bogard has not gone unnoticed, as he was significantly highlighted in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of “One Piece”.

One Piece can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
