Listeners, prepare for a thrill! It’s officially confirmed: The actors who brought Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) to life during the Eleventh Doctor’s tenure on Doctor Who will be making an appearance in the forthcoming Unleashed special.
The one-hour special event, which is set to air as scheduled, will once again be hosted by Steffan Powell. This special program will guide viewers on a captivating trip through Doctor Who’s history, starting from its revival in 2005, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this significant milestone.
In addition to a number of previously announced interviewees, Gillan and Darvill will also participate in the special event. These include Ncuti Gatwa, David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, Varada Sethu, Billie Piper, Pearl Mackie, Mandip Gill, Steven Moffat, Chris Chibnall, and Russell T Davies.
Gillan and Darvill are part of the lineup for a series of interviews during the special, which already includes Ncuti Gatwa, David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, Varada Sethu, Billie Piper, Pearl Mackie, Mandip Gill, Steven Moffat, Chris Chibnall, and Russell T Davies.
Additionally, we’ve set a launch date for the special; it’s scheduled to debut on BBC iPlayer this coming Saturday, 7th June, at 6am. Later in the day, you can catch it on both BBC Three and BBC One Wales as well.

Fans of Doctor Who can look forward to not feeling overly disappointed after this week’s season finale, The Reality War, since there will be more content from the Doctor Who universe coming shortly.
Additionally, during the special, it’s been verified that Powell will engage in conversations with ex-production designer Edward Thomas and costume designer Ray Holman, for a peek into the show’s backstage secrets.
Gillan’s last appearance on Doctor Who was in 2013, during which she briefly showed up at the conclusion of Matt Smith’s swansong, titled “The Time of the Doctor.
Previously, Darvill appeared in the episode “The Angels Take Manchester” from last year, where we said goodbye to Rory and Amy as their journey in the TARDIS concluded.
In the episode titled “The Angels Take Manhattan,” which aired last year, you’ll recall that Darvill made an appearance. This was the moment when Rory and Amy parted ways with the TARDIS.
He clarified, “Previously, my concern was that the storyline we had was so well-crafted and complete that I didn’t want any changes that might detract from its perfection.
As we’ve grown a bit older, I find myself pondering the idea that perhaps someday, even for a single occasion, it would be intriguing to explore it further. After all, you can’t always predict the future!
On Saturday, 31st May 2025, Doctor Who will carry on airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK at 6:50 pm local time. For those outside the UK, you can catch the series on Disney+.
