You season 5: Release date speculation, cast and latest news

As a fan of the gripping drama series “You”, I eagerly anticipate the return of our charming yet enigmatic anti-hero, Joe Goldberg, played by Penn Badgley. The upcoming fifth season promises to bring more twists and turns, with new faces joining the cast that will undoubtedly challenge Joe’s already questionable morality.

*Warning: This article contains major spoilers for You season 4.*

Recently, it wasn’t too much time before we caught a glimpse of the fifth and last season of Your Show, as well as the initial images of one of the new actors while filming on set.

In addition, we’ve got a fresh face joining our cast! Following the global sensation of “Baby Reindeer” on Netflix, Nava Mau, one of the series’ stars, will appear in “You” Season 5 as the mysterious Detective Marquez.

I find her mysterious since, up to this point, her personality remains largely unexplored, but given her role in law enforcement, it’s not hard to imagine that she might present some challenges for Joe Golberg (Penn Badgley).

Just a few short months back, I, as a devoted cinema enthusiast, found myself buzzing with anticipation over some initial snapshots of the multi-talented Anna Camp, famously known for her roles in Pitch Perfect and True Blood. These images showcased her alongside Badgley’s Joe, casually strolling through the bustling streets of New York City, sporting an outfit strikingly reminiscent of the iconic look from Dune.

In the last installment of the thriller, actress Camp will portray two roles: Joe’s twin sisters-in-law. At present, it’s uncertain which character she will be portraying in the scenes, but Joe appears less than pleased with whatever messages she is conveying.

Besides Camp, another newcomer has been recruited to portray members of the Lockwood clan. Griffin Matthews, known for his role in Genius, will play Joe’s brother-in-law, and Madeline Brewer from The Handmaid’s Tale has been chosen to embody the enigmatic character, Bronte.

Already aware, enthusiasts of the Netflix series had anticipated that season 5 would shift back to the United States following Joe’s time in London wrapping up in You season 4 part 2. A fresh photo from the set was shared to mark the beginning of filming, showcasing Badgley portraying Joe in New York City.

Will there be a season 5 of You?

You season 5: Release date speculation, cast and latest news

As a devoted film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to confirm that my favorite Netflix series will return for a grand finale in its fifth season! This upcoming chapter promises to deliver a fitting end to the captivating journey of our hero.

On the 24th of March, last Friday, the streaming service made an exciting revelation, as shown in a captivating flashback video from their series. This video offered glimpses into Joe’s past throughout the show, culminating with Badgley saying: “Farewell, You.”

As a devoted fan, I must share that the creative mind behind our beloved series, Sera Gamble (co-creator alongside Greg Berlanti), has chosen to relinquish her role as showrunner for Season 5. Instead, she’s eagerly diving into new project developments.

In place of that, Michael Foley, a writer from the initial season, and Justin W. Lo, who came on board in season 2, will now handle the role of showrunners.

In a statement, Gamble expressed his gratitude as he moves away from the daily management of the show to focus on fresh ventures: “To co-creator Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kepnes, my friends at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our reliable partners at Warner Bros and Netflix – I owe you all a heartfelt thank you.”

Working side by side with our writers, producers, directors, actors, and crew on this show has been an immense honor and a whole lot of fun. I’m grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with an artist as talented and considerate as Penn Badgley. I take pride in what we have achieved together, and feel humbled to be handing over the reins. I eagerly look forward to watching and cheering on the You team as they guide Joe Goldberg’s story towards its captivating end.

You season 5 release date speculation

Based on the announcement about the series renewal, it’s been confirmed that the fifth season of “You” will air on Netflix in 2024, which suggests we might expect the show to premiere around the later part of the year.

It seems that a definite release date for the upcoming episodes hasn’t been set yet, but given that production on season 5 just started, it’s possible that the airing might get postponed to later in the year.

It’s probable that the labor strikes from last year affected the release timeline of the final season in this series, but here’s hoping we get fresh episodes ahead of time instead of behind it.

Based on how Season 4 was divided into two segments, it’s reasonable to anticipate that Season 5 might follow suit and release in multiple parts as well. This implies that the latter half of the upcoming season could theoretically air in 2025.

What could You season 5 be about?

You season 5: Release date speculation, cast and latest news

To put it simply, since season 4 began as a mystery set in England, it’s hard to predict what future season 5 might hold. Regarding season 4 specifically, Penn Badgley commented: “The structure is changed. We’ve altered the format, and it’s transforming. It’s not just Joe in a new location; we’re embarking on a different type of adventure.”

It’s quite possible that the fifth season of the show will draw its content from Caroline Kepnes’ third novel, given that it was built upon her books. Although the script and storyline for season 4 diverged from Kepnes’ works, there’s no telling if the series might return to her novels in season 5.

Published in 2021, “You Love Me” is the third book in the author’s “You” series. The story revolves around Joe, who ventures to the Pacific Northwest and encounters Mary Kay DiMarco, a charming librarian he deeply falls for. Despite his past, Joe aims to demonstrate his transformation and pursues Mary Kay without his typical obsessive behaviors. He even manages to secure employment in the quiet town.

In a possible turn of events, Mary Kay, though reminiscent of Marienne, might resurface in season 5. Alternatively, the narrative could introduce a new librarian character, a mother and a friend, who might cross paths with Joe.

In addition, Caroline Kepnes is publishing the fourth book in her You series next year, titled “For You and Only You.” The story sees Joe enrolling at Harvard, securing a prestigious writing fellowship. Similar to season 4, he becomes acquainted with an exclusive circle of affluent individuals and finds himself smitten with Wonder Parish, a woman who shares his fiery spirit and could potentially be his literary counterpart.

Following his staged death in season 3 and assuming a new identity as Jonathan Moore in season 4, one might wonder if he can continue traveling undetected. Given the wealth of storylines from past seasons and the cliffhanger ending of season 4, it’s tempting to speculate that Joe’s actions won’t go unpunished for much longer.

It’s clear that the upcoming final season is going to serve as a farewell of some kind. In fact, Gamble hinted that season 5 will wrap up Joe Goldberg’s intriguing and twisted tale in a satisfying manner.

Instead, it’s worth noting that Gamble, the original creator of You alongside Greg Berlanti, has chosen to step aside as showrunner for season 5 in order to devote his attention to other creative endeavors. In their place, longtime You writers Michael Foley and Justin W Lo will assume the role of showrunners.

In her remarks, Gamble expressed that she’s proud of our collective achievements and considers it an honor to be handing over the responsibility. She’s eager to observe and encourage the team as they conclude Joe Goldberg’s intriguing tale in a fittingly twisted manner.

She expressed: “Phoebe and Kate have such a strong bond, I’m hoping they’ll reunite someday. Perhaps they could shoot in a sunny destination, making it feel like a vacation. Since Phoebe holds a special place in her heart, maybe she can help guide Kate.”

How did You season 4 end?

You season 5: Release date speculation, cast and latest news

Well, it was certainly a twisted ending.

As Nadia (Amy Leigh Hickman) moves towards uncovering more about Joe’s past, she devises a strategy to assist Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) in breaking free from the dilapidated London warehouse where she was confined. In the finale, it was revealed that while Marienne seemed lifeless in the cage, they had secretly administered betablockers to slow her pulse, making it appear as if she were dead. When Joe abandoned her corpse in the park for discovery, Marienne managed to flee with Nadia.

In a shocking turn of events, Joe murdered Kate’s father and falsely accused the bodyguard, making it seem like he was responsible for the crime. This startling revelation, surprisingly, brings a sense of relief to Kate, who had endured a troubled relationship with her father over an extended period.

In an attempt to free himself from his troubled self, Joe imagines tossing Rhys over a London bridge. However, it’s just a product of his mind. Later, Joe leaps off the bridge but is saved, only to end up in the hospital. While there, Kate informs him that her father has passed away.

At the hospital, Joe and Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) have a heartfelt conversation where they declare their love for each other. Kate inquires about Joe’s past, and he discloses his real identity, which is not Jonathan. Although the scene shifts off-camera, it’s implied that he reveals all the details to her.

In another location, Nadia searches through Joe’s apartment in an attempt to find proof that could lead to his arrest for Rhys’s murder. She discovers personal belongings of Rhys and heads towards her friend Eddie, who has been assisting her. However, before she locates Eddie, Joe intercepts her on the street. Nadia is anxious not only because of her encounter with Joe but also due to her ongoing search for Eddie. Unfortunately, during their confrontation, she drops her phone, which Joe picks up and uncovers the photographs of the evidence she had taken.

Towards the end of the final episode, a sequence unfolds as a flashback set in New York. Here, we discover that Joe had indeed located Eddie and ended his life on a roadside. As Nadia happens upon his corpse, Joe sets the stage for her arrest by planting the murder weapon – a knife – in her possession.

It’s stated that the police will discover a box containing Rhys Montrose’s belongings in her bedroom. This could lead them to believe that Eddie was responsible for Rhys’ death, and in turn, Nadia might have killed Eddie as a result. Joe comments that she hasn’t defended herself since being imprisoned, and he remarks on her intelligence.

After that, things rather conveniently come together nicely for our main character. He and Kate are being questioned about their charitable endeavors, revealing that due to Kate’s wealth and strong PR influence, Joe has effectively transformed his image from a villain in his relationship with Love Quinn, while also establishing a foundation alongside Kate, which will lead to the opening of an art school in New York City and London.

Essentially, Joe got away with everything – yet again.

In the final scenes, Marienne is happily settled in Paris with her child. Suddenly, an article from The Cut appears on her phone screen; it’s a feature titled “A Close Call with Death, A Fresh Start in Charity: How Joe Goldberg Overcame Lethal Love Quinn”.

As someone who has watched numerous series and read countless books, I can’t help but notice the intriguing hint in your statement: “Grateful for a second chance at a good life? Right.” This phrase could certainly suggest a potential plot twist involving revenge in season 5. Given my extensive experience with storytelling, I find myself eagerly anticipating how this theme might unfold in the character’s journey. It’s always fascinating to witness characters seeking retribution for past wrongs, and it adds an extra layer of complexity to their personal growth and eventual redemption. I, for one, am excited to see where this narrative leads!

Towards the end of the final episode, as the credits rolled, we catch a glimpse of Rhys looking back at us through a window. This suggests strongly that Joe was unable to eliminate or suppress his sinister other self, implying with great probability that this character might reappear in season 5.

You season 5 cast

You season 5: Release date speculation, cast and latest news

In the upcoming season, Penn Badgley is set to reprise his role as the complex protagonist, Joe Goldberg. As for Tati Gabrielle’s character, Marienne Bellamy, there’s a possibility she might return to seek retribution. However, this is yet to be confirmed.

Since Joe is currently living a dual lifestyle in both New York and London, Charlotte Ritchie will once again portray the character of Kate. Moreover, we’ve got some thrilling additional cast announcements for the upcoming season as well!

Actress Madeline Brewer, recognized for her performances in Orange is the New Black and The Handmaid’s Tale, will portray the character Bronte. As revealed by Netflix, Bronte is described as a mysterious and spirited playwright who lands a position at Joe’s new bookstore. As their bond deepens through shared love of literature and mutual grief, Bronte triggers in Joe a longing for his past self, leading him to reconsider the path his life has taken.

In the coming season of YOU, Anna Camp is set to appear in dual roles as Reagan and Maddie Lockwood, who are twin sisters-in-law to Joe Goldberg. Additionally, Griffin Matthews will portray Teddy Lockwood, a character known for his wit and loyalty as the brother-in-law.

Griffin Matthews is now part of the cast, playing the role of Teddy Lockwood – Joe’s sarcastic yet devoted brother-in-law. A trusted friend who never fully fit in with the Lockwood clan, Teddy adds sincerity and understanding to a family that struggles with these qualities.

As a longtime fan of Anna Camp’s acting skills and having watched her portray various roles with great finesse, I am thrilled to learn that she will be playing twins in the new series. Having followed her career for quite some time, I can confidently say that her versatility as an actress is truly astounding. Playing two distinct characters, Raegan and Maddie Lockwood, will undoubtedly showcase her ability to embody different personalities within a single project.

Netflix portrays Raegan as a shrewd, ruthless Chief Financial Officer at Lockwood Corp, who aspires to take the throne and will ruthlessly eliminate any obstacle, whether they are family or not. On the contrary, Maddie is depicted as the seemingly carefree twin, having been married three times and her profession being vaguely public relations.

The TUDUM teaser hints at a character from Joe’s past coming back, though the specific individual remains unknown. We’ll have to be patient and find out later. Additionally, it has been recently disclosed that Nava Mau, known for her role in Baby Reindeer, will portray Detective Marquez. For now, the specifics of her character are being kept secret.

The confirmed cast list for You season 5 is as follows.

  • Penn Badgley as Joe Golberg
  • Charlotte Ritchie as Kate
  • Madeline Brewer as Bronte
  • Griffin Matthews as Teddy Lockwood
  • Anna Camp as Raegan and Maddie Lockwood
  • Nava Mau as Detective Marquez

In the fourth season, it’s possible that we might see Kate’s close friend Phoebe (played by Tilly Keeper) again, along with other friends of Kate who reside in London.

It’s clear that Rhys unexpectedly returned during the last scenes of the finale, which meant that Joe couldn’t manage to eliminate his wicked counterpart, implying that actor Ed Speleers may reprise his role as the captivating devil influencing Joe.

It’s likely that Nadia might be devising a plan for revenge against Amy Leigh Hickman, which could lead to her return in future seasons. However, as usual for Joe, he manages to navigate life without significant harm, so it’s possible that season 5 might introduce a fresh plot and new characters, continuing the storyline independently of the previous events.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

Is there a trailer for You season 5?

As a cinephile, I’m eagerly awaiting the first-person glimpse into the world of “You” Season 5, as the tantalizing Netflix Tudum teaser has only whet my appetite for more. The full trailer is still elusive, but this sneak peek promises an intriguing journey ahead.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share some exciting news that came from Netflix’s Tudum fan event! In the teaser, Penn Badgley gave us a sneak peek at what’s to come next in the thrilling finale of “You.” My character, Joe, says in the clip, “I can see you all on the edge of your seats, waiting and theorizing about the epic conclusion to ‘You.'”

“Most significantly, you’re pondering on the person or persons that Joe might encounter upon his return to New York.”

While I’m unable to reveal the identity at this time, it’s clear that there are numerous unresolved issues from Joe’s past, Badgley remarks, as we notice Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) and Beck (Elizabeth Lail) being kept captive within his enclosed space.

As a movie enthusiast, I playfully inquire, “The riddle is, who do you truly represent?” The scene unfolds, displaying several of Joe’s past victims – Ellie Alves, Jenna Ortega’s character, sister to the slain Delilah; and Nadia, portrayed by Amy-Leigh Hickman, whom Joe framed for a crime in season 4 finale.

You can watch it below.
