You star Penn Badgley takes fans behind the scenes as season 5 wraps

As a devoted fan who has been hooked since the very first season of You, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation as we approach the final chapter of Joe Goldberg’s twisted tale. Having followed his chilling exploits across New York City and Los Angeles, I’ve grown accustomed to his manipulative ways and have even found myself rooting for him at times – though I never admit that out loud!

The final season of Netflix‘s You has officially wrapped filming.

Indeed, here’s the scoop – no matter if you adore, shudder at, or dislike him, the charismatic Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg will return for a farewell season of the popular series. He’s given us a sneak peek into what’s happening backstage, albeit just in brief glimpses.

Following the popular “quite modest” TikTok craze, Netflix requested that the actor record something for his last day on set, and he certainly didn’t disappoint.

In a brief clip, I’m navigating some hefty suitcases, yet my actions within the famous glass enclosure – often associated with my character’s detention area for victims – appear forceful and frustrated, as if venting against the walls. (Referring to Badgley in first person)

Is it possible that this is a hint at future developments for his character? Later, he humbly comments: “Having portrayed a romantic icon for five seasons, I remain quite modest and thoughtful.”

Asked Penn Badgley to film something for his final day as Joe Goldberg and he REALLY delivered.

The announcement that Season 5 of “You” would be coming out was made by Netflix in March, accompanied by a photo of Badgley in New York City, where the new episodes will be filmed.

Afterward, we’ve been granted glimpses of several new cast members, along with some thrilling casting news. Notable additions include Nava Mau from Baby Reindeer, Anna Camp known for True Blood, Madeline Brewer hailing from The Handmaid’s Tale, and Griffin Matthews, a star from Genius.

As I eagerly await the official announcement of when we’ll get our hands on You season 5, given that filming has recently concluded, I have a feeling the release date will be revealed shortly!

Since the fourth season ended with some unresolved threads, viewers are eagerly anticipating if the main character will ultimately face consequences for his actions.

Indeed, it’s no surprise that Joe Goldberg is back, considering his initial storyline took place in New York. As the new season approaches, viewers can anticipate more suspense and surprises as Joe navigates through his married life, revisits old habits, and faces some ominous twists.

After learning that the series has been renewed for another season, former showrunner Sera Gamble expressed her heartfelt appreciation: “I’m deeply thankful to co-creator Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kepnes, my colleagues at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our reliable partners at Warner Bros and Netflix. As I transition away from daily showrunning to focus on new ventures, their support has been invaluable.”

Working together with our writers, producers, directors, actors, and everyone behind the scenes on this project has been both a privilege and incredibly enjoyable. I consider myself fortunate to have collaborated with such a talented and considerate individual as Penn Badgley.

As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride and gratitude for the remarkable work we’ve collectively achieved thus far. It’s an honor now to hand over the reins, as I eagerly anticipate witnessing and cheering on “The You” team as they skillfully steer Joe Goldberg’s gripping narrative towards its enthralling climax.
