The “Red Ribbon Army Chronicles” is a storyline that originates from Akira Toriyama’s work and serves as the third saga. It revolves around Goku’s quest to find the Four-Star Dragon Ball, a relic he feels a strong connection with Grandpa Gohan, following his defeat at the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. Throughout this journey, Goku stumbles upon the menacing organization known as the Red Ribbon Army.
In a new phrase, we can say: The Red Ribbon Army serves as the initial enemy force that Goku encounters, introducing him to his first set of minions, henchmen, and commanders to defeat. This marks one of his most remarkable accomplishments – single-handedly destroying this army before reaching adulthood. If you’re curious about how Goku managed to dismantle the Red Ribbon Army, here’s a compilation of every battle in which he participated.
Dragon Ball Episode 29: “The Roaming Lake”
Despite Master Roshi’s generous gift, Nam’s village continues to face the peril of water scarcity. In an attempt to alleviate this issue, Nam journeys towards the Wandering Lake, a body of water that provides relief to drought-stricken villages. Unfortunately, he falls prey to a Pterodactyl. However, just as things seemed dire, Goku swoops in on the Flying Nimbus, hunting for the Four-Star Dragon Ball.
In this fictional scenario, Goku stretches out his Power Staff and delivers a blow to the monster, thus rescuing Nam’s life. Although these events do not occur in the manga, they create an enjoyable scene that showcases the quirky side of a less recognized character from the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament.
Dragon Ball Episode 29: “The Roaming Lake”
The Giras belong to the same dinosaur species as Giran, and it was at Lake Nam that they encountered these creatures. When Nam attempted to persuade them to lower the dam, they attacked him instead. In response, Goku took action by defeating all of the Giras in a fight.
The Giras are summoning their chief, Giran, but he retreats upon spotting Goku. The barrier, constructed from the same Merry-Go-Round Gum used in Giran’s abilities, is shattered by a Kamehameha wave, liberating the water of the Wandering Lake for Nam.
Dragon Ball Episode 32: “The Flying Fortress – Vanished!”
Regrettably, Goku’s initial encounter and battle against the Red Ribbon Army at Pila turned out to be non-canonical events, often referred to as filler. However, an important event involving the Red Ribbon Army occurred at Fire Mountain Village – they attacked Ox-King and seized him in their quest for the Six-Star Dragon Ball.
It’s fortunate that Goku and Chi-Chi stepped in to rescue Ox-King from the Red Ribbon Army, even though this isn’t part of the official storyline. However, it does provide an enjoyable layer of complexity to their future family dynamic.
Dragon Ball Episode 32: “The Flying Fortress – Vanished!”
Currently, Pilaf and his group hold the coveted six-star Dragon Ball, a fact that unwittingly makes them a focus for Goku’s attention and intentionally targets them as the Red Ribbon Army. In a confrontation, Goku takes on the Pilaf Machine after being ensnared by the Pilaf Gang within their floating fortress.
Goku vanquishes it using his Kamehameha blast, however, the Sky Fortress is struck and destroyed by the Red Ribbon Army. The ensuing explosion propels Goku far from the scene. In the aftermath, the Red Ribbon Army lays claim to the Six-Star Dragon Ball.
Dragon Ball Episode 33: “The Legend of a Dragon”
On yet another thrilling adventure, I, being ever on the hunt for the Dragon Ball, find myself embroiled in an unexpected encounter with a mischievous monkey. This cunning primate makes off with my prized piece of fruit! Hot on its tail, I chase after it, only to stumble upon a menacing panther blocking my path. In a flash, I engage the panther in combat and emerge victorious. The adrenaline rush was incredible!
In a turn of events, all the monkeys visit Goku to express gratitude for his rescue efforts by offering him food. Prior to dozing off, he enjoys some playtime with them. During this slumber, these clever monkeys discover the mystical Five-Star Dragon Balls.
Dragon Ball Episode 33: “The Legend of a Dragon”
In this particular installment, not only do we uncover a purely fictitious account of the Dragon Balls’ inception, but it also showcases Goku engaged in combat against the Red Ribbon Army. As Colonel Silver, leader of the army, becomes privy to the monkeys’ possession of the Dragon Ball, he issues commands for the forest to be torched and the monkeys to be targeted with gunfire.
In this intense battle, I unleash my fury upon my adversaries, but my most impressive move takes place as I hurl a massive boulder, shattering an entire army tank in its path. For the first time, I cross swords with Colonel Silver, but our encounter is cut short when he recklessly fires at a monkey swinging by. With a sense of duty and protectiveness, I swiftly leap into action to shield my newfound friend from harm.
Dragon Ball Episode 34: “Cruel General Red”
Following their victories against two of Colonel Silver’s henchmen, Goku and Colonel Silver engage in a confrontation. Silver uses a rocket launcher to destroy the Flying Nimbus, pushing Goku into combat. Silver demonstrates an impressive strength, having subdued four boxers, and possesses reflexes and speed that leave Goku astonished and allow him to swiftly dodge Red’s agile Pet Cat-like Animal.
However, Colonel Silver’s defeat at the hands of Goku was not enough for General Red, leading him to carry out the execution of Colonel Silver as Goku headed towards Muscle Tower.
Dragon Ball Episode 35: “Cold Reception”
In the chilly lands of the Northern Territory, Goku is rescued by a kind-hearted girl called Suno, who hails from Jingle Village. Suno and her mother share with him that the Red Ribbon Army has been causing havoc in their village, oppressing its people mercilessly like enslaved laborers.
In various Red Ribbon Army communications, it was announced that Goku had been located in the Northern Territory and at Suno’s residence. Upon learning that the village leader was in peril, Goku promptly set out to protect them. Along the way, he encountered a few guards and dispatched them using his Power Pole. As he approached Muscle Tower, General White’s stronghold, this was the sequence of events.
Dragon Ball Episode 36: “Major Metallitron”
In the Muscle Tower, Goku ventures in, aiming to save the Village Chief. Upon entering, he overpowers four guards – Karot, Onion, Pump, and Pote – before encountering Major Metallitron. Fans discover that this towering figure is an invincible operative of the Red Ribbon Army. Underestimating Goku due to his immense size, Major Metallitron throws a punch at him. However, Goku’s lightning-fast reflexes enable him to dodge, and he retaliates by knocking down Major Metallitron with a powerful counterpunch.
Despite being knocked down by Metallitrion, Goku’s android body allows him to recover and pinch Goku, almost flattening him. However, Goku slips free from his grasp just in time. The battle intensifies as Metallitrion launches a missile from his mouth and Goku responds with a Kamehameha, decapitating Metallitrion. Metallitrion persists in attacking Goku, firing a fist at him which pushes him back. The fight goes on, with Goku preparing to unleash another Kamehameha, but in the last moment, Major Metallitron’s power source runs out, giving Goku an opportunity to ascend the tower.
Dragon Ball Episode 37: “Ninja Murasaki is Coming!”
On the fourth floor of Muscle Tower, Goku is ambushed in the dark by Kunais thrown by the villainous Ninja Murasaki. A fight ensues between the two as Goku struggles to dodge Murasaki’s Kunai attacks. In a counterattack, Goku hurls a rock at Murasaki, striking him and sending him crashing into a tree.
In a more casual and simplified manner, we could say: Murasaki turns into a comical figure due to his ninja skills often being jokes. He plays hide-and-seek with Goku, always gets caught, falls for tricks like boiling water, and even loses in a footrace. Later on, when the Power Pole ends up in an unusual place, Murasaki is left with no choice but to call upon his brothers to help him in battle.
