You Won’t Believe How Well Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Sold on Steam

Previously exclusive to PlayStation 5, “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” made its debut on Steam in January. Interestingly, it turned out to be the most popular game of that week in the U.S., according to data from Circana. In fact, a bundle containing both “Rebirth” and “Final Fantasy VII Remake” even claimed the third spot on the sales list.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share my excitement over the incredible success of “Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth” during its Steam debut! According to Piscatella’s recent post on Bluesky, “Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth” was an absolute powerhouse in the US market, securing the top spot for sales among all games during the week ending January 25th.

But wait, there’s more! The incredible duo of “Final Fantasy VII Remake” and “Rebirth,” when sold together as a Twin Pack, managed to climb up the ranks, earning the coveted third place in the same timeframe. This just goes to show that Square Enix has truly struck a chord with fans like me!

It’s expected that the performance of “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” on PC will bring some well-deserved relief to Square Enix, given its earlier disappointing sales compared to “Final Fantasy VII Remake.” With the third installment of the remake trilogy also having a time-limited exclusivity on PlayStation upon release, Square Enix seems to have taken note from past experiences about the significance of multiplatform launches. After experiencing underperformance with both “Rebirth” and “Final Fantasy XVI,” Square Enix has promised to abandon exclusive releases moving forward.

The robust sales for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth suggest a positive outlook for its potential release on other systems. To date, Square Enix hasn’t officially confirmed the game’s availability beyond PC and PS5, but there’s been persistent chatter about it being released on Xbox. The bond between Square Enix and Microsoft has grown stronger over the past year, leading to titles like Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy Pixel Remakes appearing on Xbox Series X|S. Square Enix has explicitly stated that more of their games will be ported to this platform, and given its popularity, it seems likely that Final Fantasy VII Remake could be next.

Beyond Xbox, there’s been buzz that the upcoming games like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth might make their way onto the expected release of the Nintendo Switch 2 as well. Known for its impressive performance over the past eight years, the console is anticipated to hit markets later this year, potentially welcoming a surge of games that are currently too demanding for the existing Switch hardware. Notably, Square Enix has been a consistent ally to Switch, providing a steady flow of titles such as Crisis Core, Dragon Quest III HD-2D, and Chocobo GP. Given the potential power upgrade in Nintendo’s hardware, it’s reasonable to predict that Square Enix could extend even more support.

Currently, players wanting to enjoy “Final Fantasy VII Remake” and “Rebirth” can only do so on PC and PS5. Given that Square Enix likely wasn’t thinking about releasing these games on other platforms earlier, it’s reasonable to speculate they might be considering it now.
