fans get their first look at Jeremy Allen White‘s Rotta the Hutt.
At the Star Wars Celebration event, a panel for The Mandalorian and Grogu revealed an image of Rotta the Hutt; this image has since gone viral on social media. The somewhat blurry picture depicts the massive, slow-moving Rotta lifting his arms in what seems to be an arena setting. The character, voiced by Jeremy Allen White from The Bear, will make his live-action, cinematic debut next summer when The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22, 2026.
Before the television series with the same title, there was a film featuring animation, which unfolded only two months prior. The young character, Rotta, who belonged to Jabba the Hutt, was abducted by the Confederacy of Independent Systems under orders from Count Dooku as part of a larger scheme to escalate tensions between the Galactic Republic and the Hutts to their maximum. Thankfully, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano managed to save Rotta, averting a calamity that would have affected everyone.
The Mandalorian & Grogu Gets an Exciting Update
The screenwriter, who collaborated with Dave Filoni on the script, is preparing to introduce Pedro Pascal’s beloved bounty hunter character to the big screen for the first time next summer. Alongside Pascal, Sigourney Weaver and Jonny Coyne will also be part of the cast. Notably, Coyne will play an Imperial warlord who clings to whatever fragments of the old Galactic Empire he can still control. Initially, Favreau and Filoni intended to release a fourth season of The Mandalorian last year; however, these plans had to be adjusted due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA/WGA strikes.
In a recent press release from Lucasfilm, it’s been announced that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have wrapped up production on “The Mandalorian and Grogu.” This movie marks the first Star Wars project set to hit theaters since 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” Details about the film’s storyline are being kept secret for now, but with Rotta the Hutt making an appearance, fans have some tantalizing hints about what the larger narrative might entail.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is currently slated to arrive in theaters on May 22, 2026.
