From an intriguing standpoint, the momentum on the enigmatic island of Elbaf in the world of “One Piece” has significantly intensified. Previously hinted at by Akainu in Chapter 1054, almost a hundred chapters later, we’re finally delving into the secretive Holy Knights, an elite guard serving the World Nobles. The anticipation surrounding Gunko and Shamrock was already palpable, but the latest installment of “One Piece” has added two more of these nine elusive members to the mix. As we inch closer to another Egghead-style free-for-all, the intrigue surrounding Elbaf only continues to escalate.
In response to Loki’s decision not to join the Holy Knights, Chapter 1140 of “One Piece” introduces two additional Holy Knight members sent by Shamrock’s orders. Gunko conjures an abyss pentagram that swiftly transports these reinforcements to Elbaf. The newly arrived Holy Knights are Saint Killingham from the Rimoshifu Family and Saint Sommers of the Shepherd Family, as revealed in this chapter. Keeping with “One Piece’s” eccentric style, both newcomers boast unusual character designs. Additionally, the latest chapter offers fans a glimpse into the peculiarities of their powers and skills.
One Piece‘s Elbaf Arc Debuts Two Quirky New Holy Knights
In the recent chapters 1136 and 1137, Gunko and Shamrock were introduced into the storyline of One Piece. This quick addition to the Holy Knights roster came as a bit of a shock. However, unlike Gunko and Shamrock who have been all work since they arrived on Elbaf, St. Killingham and St. Sommers appear more eccentric and relaxed. This has left readers eagerly anticipating further revelations about their unique abilities, but also their distinctive personalities.
In the narrative, Saint Sommers leaves an indelible first impression, being summoned from his house while wearing adorable heart-patterned boxers, showcasing his hairy legs. It’s also disclosed that he belongs to the same Shepherd Family as Saint Ju Peter, although the specifics of their relationship remain undisclosed. However, Sommers shares a striking resemblance with Ju Peter, save for his glasses and longer hair. The text does not offer any clues about the type of devil fruit power Sommers possesses, but he can be seen wielding a sword with an unusual spiky hilt. Moreover, Saint Killingham’s character design as a Holy Knight in “One Piece” is also remarkable, drawing upon some intriguing influences.
Chinese Mythology and Clever Naming Help One New Holy Knight Stand Out in One Piece
Compared to other characters, Saint Killingham stands out more due to his unique character design, which is suggested by his name derived from the qilin or kirin, a mythical creature in both Chinese and Japanese folklore. The qilin is often depicted with a dragon-like head, a single horn, and the body of an animal such as a deer, horse, or goat. In Japanese mythology, it’s also known as the kirin, a powerful yokai believed to symbolize purity, goodness, and peaceful times.
From my vantage point, the legend of the Kirin suggests it’s a gentle creature that only unleashes its divine flames when provoked. This could imply that St. Killingham might lean towards pacifism and his fiery assaults stem from this source. The smoke sash draped around St. Killingham’s shoulders and his initial appearance in a hybrid form hint that he may have activated a Devil Fruit. As the story unfolds, it seems we will soon catch glimpses of his human form in upcoming chapters.
Given the current situation, it appears highly probable that the Holy Knights will require additional forces to execute their sinister scheme for conquering Elbaf. This becomes even more likely with the Straw Hat Pirates present on the island and Luffy steadily working towards freeing Loki from his restraints. Consequently, we might not have to wait much longer before other Holy Knights make an appearance in the story. At this point, it seems that author Eiichiro Oda is preparing for a massive conflict involving the entire power of the Holy Knights, reminiscent of the battle against the Five Elders at Egghead. If this holds true, chaos is imminent on Elbaf and the upcoming chapters promise to be an exhilarating whirlwind of action and suspense.
