Actor Naveen Andrews, who was once a lost star, will take on the role of an infamous Star Trek villain in an upcoming audio drama set to release on podcast platforms by the end of the year.
In an upcoming exploration, the series Star Trek: Khan will delve into a hitherto unexplored phase in the life of Captain Kirk’s arch-rival, Khan Noonien Singh, who engaged him and his team in the classic Star Trek episode Space Seed, as well as in the 1982 movie The Wrath of Khan.
The audio drama unfolds during the time when Khan and his band of followers found themselves marooned on a barren world known as Ceti Alpha V. This desolate planet was suggested by Kirk as an alternative to serving a jail term.
The period of exile plays a crucial role in transforming Khan into the menacing antagonist seen in the second Star Trek movie, “The Wrath of Khan”. It was Nicholas Meyer, the writer and director of “Wrath of Khan”, who developed the narrative for this additional episode.
In a new twist, the actor known for “The Dropout” and “Lost,” Andrews, assumes the lead role as Khan – a legendary antagonist initially played by Ricardo Montalbán. Meanwhile, Wrenn Schmidt, who has appeared on “For All Mankind,” brings back to life Marla McGivers, a character that had been inactive for quite some time.
Back in 1967, I found myself captivated by the portrayal of McGivers, a Starfleet historian, in the movie Space Seed. In our fleeting encounter, I developed a romantic bond with Khan that was so powerful it led me to make an extraordinary choice – I decided to stay with him on Ceti Alpha V.
This expansion provides an in-depth exploration of the “anger, ambition, and suffering” that drove McGivers and over a dozen followers of Khan, hinted at in Star Trek II, to return to Captain Kirk’s presence.

According to StarTrek.com, the production of the audio drama has been finished, and they will announce additional cast members soon before its podcast premiere, which is scheduled for later this year.
The impact of Khan, both as a character and through his narrative, is undeniably significant within the entire series. This influence can be seen particularly in J.J. Abrams’ 2013 movie Star Trek Into Darkness, where Khan was reimagined by Benedict Cumberbatch.
