Back in the day, I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the original Gex game when it came bundled with the now-legendary 3DO multimedia system. Despite the system’s brief lifespan, Gex is one of those games that still lingers fondly in our memories. Later down the line, this gem found a new life on the PlayStation, where it thrived and spawned two fantastic sequels – Gex: Enter the Gecko and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko.
This summer, you’ll be able to enjoy the complete Gex Trilogy on your PlayStation 5, thanks to the Carbon Engine emulation by Limited Run Games. It appears that the earlier announced PS4 release has been scrapped instead.
Each of the three games can now be fully played with contemporary enhancements such as native widescreen display, though it’s worth noting that the initial game doesn’t support this feature due to its hand-drawn backdrops which maintain their original aspect ratio.

Over time, the Gex series was developed by an impressive roster of talents, such as Glen Schofield, known for his work on Dead Space, along with Evan Wells and Bruce Straley from Naughty Dog. Moreover, Dana Gould, a well-known comedian, contributed to the projects as both a writer and voice actor.
Although they may not be the top picks from the 32-bit era, it’s delightful that timeless games such as these are kept alive on contemporary systems. Will you join us in rediscovering these hilarious ‘90s gems once more?
