Since the appearance of Gear Five, there are fewer powers and abilities in One Piece that match their previous levels of awe, but Future Sight remains an exception due to its rarity within the series. Introduced during the Whole Cake Island Arc, this advanced form of Observation Haki, as suggested by its name, allows a limited number of known users to briefly glimpse into the future. This ability has proven invaluable and transformative during any battle. To add to this, the latest chapter of One Piece has unveiled a new user of Future Sight on Elbaf, expanding the list of those who possess this exceptional talent.
In chapter 1149 of the popular manga “One Piece”, it’s revealed that Scopper Gaban is another character who can see the future, making him one of only five confirmed users throughout the series, joining Katakuri, Luffy, Shanks, and Kaido. The most recent chapter shows Gaban using Future Sight when Gunko threatens to kill Collun. Gaban saw that Gunko’s sword would kill Collun before he could intervene, so he chose to surrender in order to save his son’s life. This also clarifies that Gaban used Future Sight against Luffy and Zoro in chapter 1140, where he foresaw their Gear Five attack and surrendered ahead of time.
One Piece Confirms Gaban Can Use Future Sight
In Chapter 1140, when I went head-to-head with Scopper Gaban at Aurust Castle, aiming to unlock Loki’s chains, an unexpected twist occurred as the spirit of the late Roger Pirate suddenly called it quits, just as I and Zoro were gearing up for a serious showdown. This moment is when many readers, including myself, started suspecting Gaban might have Future Sight, given the peculiar gleam in his eye before he surrendered – a glint strikingly similar to previous portrayals of Future Sight within the One Piece universe, even down to the onomatopoeia.
Despite initial doubts, it wasn’t until the most recent chapter that we could fully confirm Gaban’s use of the elusive Future Sight ability. This is evident not just in his premonition but also the glimmer near his eye. Looking back, it aligns with Gaban being a Future Sight user because he sensed the Straw Hats approaching Elbaf from afar at the start of the arc. This shows that he possesses advanced Observation Haki. However, keep in mind that One Piece has shown that Future Sight isn’t something every skilled Observation haki user can easily acquire. Given Gaban’s role as the “Left Hand of the Pirate King,” his possession of such a powerful ability seems fitting.
