The fitness community is mourning a loss.
On May 2nd, it was confirmed by the Cholula Games that Nayeli Clemente had passed away, having taken part in a long-distance running event known as “Team Pyramid Run.” At the time of her death, she was just 24 years old.
At the San Andrés Cholula Games, a series of intense long-distance races, I found myself participating amidst the growing excitement. However, during one particularly scorching day with temperatures soaring at 96 degrees, I succumbed to the heat and was rushed to the hospital.
She passed away a day later, according to event organizers.
At the main competition of the Cholula Games, an athlete encountered a serious health issue, as reported in their statement to the Daily Mail. The medical staff on site attended to her immediately and transported her to a private hospital. Tragically, she passed away the next day.
Before her unfortunate demise, Nayeli’s brother, Kevin Armando Hernández, shed light on her hospital stay, revealing that she experienced an unexpected stroke.
He too acknowledged his sister, likening the physical therapist to a person who is deeply passionate about mending and nurturing others, a woman of great strength, an athletic individual, and someone who cherishes nature.
Nayeli frequently took part in CrossFit competitions, being a dedicated sports enthusiast, and she openly discussed her health challenges while engaging in marathon activities.
In her Instagram post from May 2024, she expressed that there were signs she preferred not to acknowledge due to her ambition to achieve greatness immediately. Despite feelings of apprehension and doubt about potential risks, she courageously decided to proceed with the next exercise in the sequence of the competition.
She commented, “While I don’t think it was the wisest choice, it demonstrated my courage, resilience, and strength.
Although CrossFit didn’t sponsor the specific event, after her passing, they expressed their grief for having lost one of their valued members from their fitness community.
We’re profoundly sorry to hear about the death of athlete Nayeli Clemente at a licensed event in Mexico. Our thoughts are with Nayeli’s loved ones, particularly her fellow CrossFit athletes and the broader CrossFit community.
