One member of the popular Young Avengers squad resumes action, joining forces with Captain America. The team, often at the center of cultural relevance, particularly in relation to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s gradual integration of their characters, is a notable example. This was recently demonstrated in “Agatha All Along“, where one of Scarlet Witch’s twin sons, Wiccan, made his introduction. While fans eagerly anticipate the full assembly of the Young Avengers in the comics, they must content themselves with occasional appearances and team-ups, similar to what we see in “Sam Wilson: Captain America” #4. Elijah Bradley puts on his Patriot outfit once more to aid Sam and his uncle in taking down a malicious corporation.
In a new development, Marvel has unveiled the sneak peek for issue #4 of ‘Sam Wilson: Captain America,’ penned by Greg Pak, Evan Narcisse, Chris Campana, Jonas Trindade, Fer Sifuentes-Sujo, and lettered by Joe Caramagna. The story opens with Eli Bradley feeling let down as his uncle, Josiah X, fails to show up for their routine chess match in the park. Over three consecutive games, Josiah X has been a no-show, leaving young Eli worried. Eli sends messages that remain unanswered and even attempts to contact his grandmother and War Machine to check on Josiah X’s whereabouts.
Eventually, Patriot reaches out to his Young Avengers comrade, Wiccan, for assistance. He inquires if it’s feasible for him to be transported to Josiah X’s current location. Upon being teleported, Patriot arrives at Eaglestar’s advanced sky-dreaming facility that floats high above the ground. Here, he encounters Josiah X, Captain America, and Falcon engaged in a desperate battle against Eaglestar’s genetically modified War Angels. It was later revealed that Eaglestar had been feigning altruism, exploiting the disenfranchised instead of helping them. Sam Wilson determined that taking down the entire corporation was necessary.
The final scene shows our protagonists overpowering the War Angels, and then they strategize on their future actions. The series “Sam Wilson: Captain America” was released alongside “Captain America: Brave New World”, and earlier instalments had a guest appearance by Red Hulk. In “Captain America: Brave New World”, Harrison Ford played Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who is also known as Red Hulk, making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.
It seems like the reunion of the Young Avengers in the comics has been temporarily postponed. Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski had earlier announced that they were planning a new Young Avengers series for 2025, which coincides with their 25th anniversary. At Osaka Comic Con, he mentioned that they are currently figuring out which characters will be part of the new Young Avengers team based on natural storyline reasons. He suggested that original members like Iron Lad, Patriot, Hulkling, Wiccan, and Hawkeye could potentially join this new team.
However, in a recent post on his Substack blog, the initial editor of Young Avengers, Tom Brevoort, disclosed that those plans are no longer in effect.
Currently, there’s no Young Avengers project planned for the near future, as stated by the Marvel Comics Executive Editor, SVP and X-Men Group Editor in response to a question about the 20th anniversary of the debut issue (which was published in February 2005 but cover dated April 2005).
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’ve been grappling with some significant challenges in crafting another installment of this beloved series that could potentially measure up to the brilliance of Heinberg, Cheung, Gillen, and McKelvie – a benchmark that is undeniably high. However, I remain hopeful that this year, we might just strike the perfect balance.
