Youngblood REBORN: Iconic ’90s Comic Gets Jaw-Dropping Upgrade

Image Comics has disclosed that Rob Liefeld’s popular ’90s series, “Youngblood,” is undergoing a complete makeover. Instead of simple facsimiles of the original comics, each issue will be available as premium collector’s editions. The enhancements to these “Youngblood Deluxe” releases will significantly upgrade the issues, making them fresh and new for readers. As stated in an Image Comics press release, the “Youngblood Deluxe” series will be rewritten, recolored, rerelabeled, and remastered to provide a superior reading experience.

Liefeld expressed, “This is the perfect method to explore ‘Youngblood.’ These characters hold immense significance for me, and re-imagining them in this manner offers the finest reading experience of the comic that ignited a movement and reshaped the entire industry!

For the first time in years, the remastered, deluxe editions of “Youngblood” are back in print, and fans can dive into the vibrant, thought-provoking world of Badrock through “Youngblood Deluxe #1”. This issue introduces characters such as Shaft, Die-Hard, Vogue, Sentinel, Riptide, Cougar, Chapel, and more, offering a 40-page action-packed adventure. You can grab your copy of “Youngblood Deluxe #1” at your local comic book store on April 16.

Initially introduced by Liefeld in various comics beforehand, Youngblood was formed as a unique superhero team that not only combated crime but also found themselves rising to celebrity status. This dual role led them to grapple with more than just wrongdoers; they had to manage their endorsement deals and other business ventures alongside, offering a self-reflective perspective on superheroes during a time when comic book publishing was at its peak.

Youngblood, the character, has undergone several revamps, not just by Rob Liefeld but also by other notable comic book authors. Even Alan Moore of Watchmen fame contributed to some issues during these transitions. Recently, it was announced that Liefeld is set to revisit Youngblood again, this time penning and illustrating fresh stories. As of last October, these new tales are still in development.

Apart from the Youngblood Deluxe editions, Image Comics is also planning a grand celebration for Liefeld’s series this April. Instead of the limited edition issues, they will be releasing the Youngblood Vault Edition, an extensive hardcover book. This large-format hardcover, priced at $150, showcases all Rob Liefeld artwork from Youngblood #1-4, covers, pin-ups, trading cards, and more in high-quality archival reproductions.
