On Tuesday, January 7th, 2025, at 8:15 am, SEGA officially unveiled the complete 35-second video showcasing their innovative concept for the upcoming Virtua Fighter game, using actual engine graphics.
The fine print emphasizes that “this is a pre-development concept video,” meaning the final gameplay and characters might deviate from what’s displayed. Essentially, it serves as a glimpse into Ryu ga Gotoku Studio’s intended vision for the project.
Should it manage something akin to this in the finished version, we might just be witnessing the creation of one of the most outstanding 3D fighting games ever developed.

It’s not unexpected that Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, showcased a brief clip of the upcoming Virtua Fighter game during their CES 2025 presentation, given the long-standing partnership between Sega and Nvidia.
The video showcases a work-in-progress, in-engine creation, and yet, the animations displayed are exceptionally impressive. Even through a limited viewpoint, the movements appear unusually fluid and transitions seem flawless.
“This is the new Virtua Fighter project,” Huang deliriously declared. “I just can’t wait!”
Originally developed by gaming legend Yu Suzuki, Virtua Fighter was pioneering in its use of 3D graphics for fighting games, setting the stage for future titles such as Tekken and Dead or Alive. Despite a period of little attention, SEGA is now investing significantly to revive this series, marking a new beginning with esports tournaments and an upgrade to the PS4 game, Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown.
It seems that the release of the latest game from Ryu ga Gotoku Studio, famous for the Yakuza series, may still be a few years away. However, they’re currently working on something exciting.
