He’s the amicable, awe-inspiring, newcomer known as “Neighborhood Spiderman.” In the initial animated series by Marvel Studios, a 15-year-old Peter Parker (portrayed by Hudson Thames) is finding his footing as a superhero, happening just before the events of Captain America: Civil War. This Marvel Cinematic Universe-inspired show takes a divergent path from the main timeline into an alternate reality where Oscorp industrialist Norman Osborn (played by Colman Domingo) instead of Tony Stark, guides the web-slinger from Queens.
Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television and Marvel Animation, had earlier mentioned that the show initially announced as Spider-Man: Freshman Year closely mirrors events from Civil War. This includes Peter finding a broken Blu-ray player from the trash and entering his apartment for the iconic scene where Tony Stark is already waiting to offer him an internship at Stark Industries, which leads to their trip to Berlin.
Due to events in multiple universes and unforeseen occurrences, it’s not Tony Stark who greets him; instead, it’s Norman Osborn. This encounter sets his life on a course never imagined, leading him to cross paths with various unexpected characters within the Marvel Universe.” (Additional details about these characters can be found below.)

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Cast: Who’s Voicing the Characters
As a movie reviewer, I’d say:
“In this Marvel-ous animated series, ‘What If…?’, I find myself stepping into the shoes of Peter Parker, better known as Spider-Man, voiced by Hudson Thames. The star-studded cast includes Colman Domingo as Norman Osborn, Kari Wahlgren as my beloved aunt May Parker, Grace Song as my best friend Nico Minoru, and Zeno Robinson as Harry Osborn, Norman’s social media-famous son.
In the halls of Bales High School, we have Eugene Byrd as Lonnie Lincoln, the star quarterback, and Cathy Ang as Pearl Pangan, my childhood crush who just happens to be Lonnie’s girlfriend. In the lab, I work alongside an impressive team, including Aleks Le as Amadeus Cho, Anjali Kuanpaneni as Jeanne Foucault, Erica Luttrell as Asha, and Paul F. Tompkins as Dr. Bentley Wittman, with Zehra Fazal as Dr. Carla Connors.
This series promises a thrilling ride filled with action, drama, and the unexpected twists that only Marvel can deliver.
Charlie Cox returns to play Daredevil, Robin Atkin Downes takes on Doctor Strange’s voice, while Mick Wingert voices Iron Man in the upcoming series “Daredevil: Born Again”. The initial 10-episode season will feature antagonists such as Hugh Dancy as Dr. Otto Octavius, Jake Green as Butane, Roger Craig Smith as James “Speed Demon” Sanders and Dmitri Smerdyakov/the Chameleon, Anairis Quinones as Maria Vasquez/Tarantula and Carmilla Black, Travis Willingham as Mikhail Sytsevich and Thaddeus Ross, Sarah Natochenny as Mila Masaryk/Unicorn, Leilani Barrett as Big Donovan, and Jonathan Medina as Mac Gargan/the Scorpion. (From this version, we can see that the actors mentioned are playing their respective characters in the series.)
Is Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man In the MCU?
The show shares a connection with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it follows a timeline different from those live-action movies featuring Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Instead of Peter Parker and Nico attending Midtown High School of Science and Technology, they enroll at an alternate school named Bales High. Consequently, characters like Michelle “MJ” Jones, Ned Leeds, Liz Allan, or Flash Thompson are not present in this series.
Since Peter works as an intern at Oscorp, he couldn’t take up the internship offered by Stark. As a result, Spider-Man was absent during the Avengers’ fight at the German airport in “Captain America: Civil War.
According to head writer and executive producer Jeff Trammell (Craig of the Creek), we delight in continuing the narrative threads from movies, shows, and comics. We don’t just replicate what has come before; instead, we reinvent it with fresh perspectives. We leverage these familiar elements to surprise you, steering things away from predictable paths. I can’t wait for you to discover unexpected takes on established characters and also meet new characters who aren’t usually part of the Spider-Man universe.
Trammell went on to say, “You’ll encounter some familiar characters, especially if you’re fond of Chameleon. Additionally, you’ll see Scorpion, along with a few fresh-looking figures such as Speed Demon or Butane. Our villain collection is quite extensive, and we’re excited to bring some of them into the limelight.
Will There Be Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man 2?
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Marvel Animation is bringing us another season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”! Exciting news from Winderbaum confirms that the series has been greenlit for not just one more season, but all the way through season 3 on Disney+. This means we’ll be spending even more time in the Marvel universe with our friendly neighborhood Spiderman!
