Konami has debuted the initial episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game Chronicles web series on YouTube. Announced back in December 2024, this series deviates from the usual duelists to focus instead on the characters portrayed by the cards themselves. Continuing the 25th anniversary video Konami released earlier in 2024, the web series offers short animated glimpses of various cards. The inaugural episode of the official Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game Chronicles anime lasts for just 4 minutes and highlights Sky Striker Ace, a card type that players can incorporate into their decks. This archetype revolves around Raye, a female soldier and primary monster card in the game.
A fresh installment of the series will air monthly on YouTube, titled “Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game The Chronicles“. This is one of Konami Animation Studio’s inaugural significant projects. Earlier, Gallop Studio was responsible for producing the Yu-Gi-Oh anime, while Konami handled the card game’s production and distribution. The last anime produced by Gallop was Yu-Gi-Oh Vrains; subsequent series like Sevens and Go Rush were created by Bridge. With the establishment of Konami Animation, it’s speculated that the company aims to simplify anime production and have all Yu-Gi-Oh brand components developed in a single facility. This could potentially reduce the company’s dependence on external studios for its Yu-Gi-Oh animation needs.
What Is Sky Striker Ace in Yu-Gi-Oh?
The “Chronicles” episode kicks off mid-action, showing Raye piloting a plane towards an enigmatic armored machine in the heart of nowhere. As demonstrated in the initial “Chronicles” episode, Raye and her Sky Striker cards have the ability to transform into various forms. Players can swap out these cards to grant her new skills and construct a deck tailored to her. Raye’s background reveals she possesses the power to summon and manage massive weapons on command, residing in a world filled with machines. In the premiere of the “Chronicles” anime, Raye metamorphoses into Sky Striker Ace – Kagari, a unique type of card game monster. As Kagari, she plunges into the machine, images of another girl named Roz emerging in her thoughts. Roz is another incarnation of Sky Striker Ace, and past animations showcased Raye and Roz engaging in combat.
Raye unleashes a colossal sword to collide with the machine’s blade. She presses on, cutting her foe in two. In the aftermath, she revisits the wreckage and discovers Roz, wounded, amidst the chaos. The episode offers no background or context, dropping viewers straight into the heart of the action without much knowledge about the main characters or locations. It remains unclear if the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game The Chronicles installment will further the Sky Striker narrative or switch to a new deck. Konami has hinted that this season of Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game The Chronicles will emphasize the Fallen of Albaz archetype. Fallen of Albaz is another set of cards occurring in a distinct world, where a warrior named Ecclesia encounters a humanoid dragon who becomes known as the Fallen of Albaz.
