Yu Yu Hakusho Is Selling Toguro's Iconic Shades IRL

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the captivating world of Yu Yu Hakusho, I can confidently say that Toguro’s iconic glasses have always been a symbol of menace and mystery. From his humble beginnings as an ally to Genkai to his transformation into one of the most feared villains, Toguro’s journey is etched in my memory.

Although Yu Yu Hakusho ended its run in 1994, the impact of this supernatural shonen series remains strong today. Most recently, fans got to see Yusuke Urameshi and his team of spirit detectives brought to life through a live-action adaptation on Netflix. This adaptation combined the initial storyline with the “Dark Tournament Arc”. In the underworld tournament, Yusuke found himself facing off against one of the series’ most iconic villains, Toguro. Known for his massive muscles and brutal personality, Toguro’s unique glasses made him stand out among anime antagonists. Now, you can own a pair of those distinctive glasses yourself.

If you’re not acquainted with the larger-than-life antagonist, he wasn’t always the formidable adversary that anime fans recognize today. Around half a century before the story of Yu Yu Hakusho started, Toguro was actually friends with Yusuke’s mentor, Genkai. Unfortunately for the future villain, several of his comrades were defeated by a demon whom he had vowed to vanquish. Joining the Dark Tournament himself, Toguro emerged victorious while also seeking revenge against the demon that had wronged him. This dark turn in events caused Toguru to transform into a demon and eventually set him on a path towards confrontation with Yusuke Urameshi and his former ally Genkai.

Toguro’s Shades Are Up For Sale

Meccha Japan announced that they plan to market the distinctive glasses, which were famously worn by Toguro in the anime series, as they have been patented. Although the glasses won’t be released until January of next year, they will cost approximately $80 USD. It’s important to note that these glasses do not grant users any supernatural powers like the younger Toguro brother possessed.

In its latest adaptation, the live-action version of “Yu Yu Hakusho” boasted a Toguro character strikingly similar to his animated counterpart, portrayed by actor Go Ayano. The show condensed the tale of the Toguro brothers, but managed to convey the sinister essence of these demonic siblings. As of now, Netflix hasn’t given a definitive answer about a second season for “Yu Yu Hakusho”, but potential storylines such as Chapter Black and the Three Kings Saga could make compelling additions to the live-action series.
