ZA/UM Announces Project [C4], Espionage RPG with Some of That Disco Elysium Magic

ZA/UM, creators of the critically acclaimed CRPG Disco Elysium, have unveiled their upcoming project. For now, it’s tentatively named Project [C4]. Even though I’m a self-declared devotee of Disco’s writers, particularly Robert Kurtvitz’s work, and not the studio itself due to past internal disputes, the hints of what’s to come in this new game are compelling enough for enthusiasts of that remarkable title to take notice.

The Project [C4] is a role-playing game with strong psychological themes, often likened to espionage. In this game, you assume the character of an ‘Operant’, working covertly for a powerful global entity. Your tasks involve uncovering secrets and building influence, all while navigating dangerous missions that could lead to your demise or exposure. The gameplay emphasizes nail-biting dice rolls and critical dialogue choices. ZA/UM aims to immerse players in the bitter aroma of potential failure.

Remarkably, the game centers around the concept of drug use, allowing players to manipulate or erase disturbing real-world events through the use of psychoactive substances. Drawing inspiration from the secretive plots of spy novels, this isn’t the glamorous setting depicted in James Bond stories; instead, it echoes the underhanded intrigue found in narratives such as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Old Boy.

How do you feel about Project [C4]? Does it contain enough of that classic Disco charm to catch your attention? Consider whether we might have been enjoying the potential heir to the true Diso Elysium by now, as you share your thoughts in the comments below.
