On June 5th, when the Nintendo Switch 2 debuts, it will come with an upgraded version of “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” as its companion. This game demo is available for play at Nintendo Switch 2 events taking place in different cities worldwide, such as Tokyo. At one of these events, a speedrunner known as “Ikaboze” not only got to try out the game but also managed to defeat Calamity Ganon in a mere seven minutes. According to Nintendo Life, following the ending of the game, Ikaboze received applause from the spectators who had gathered to witness this feat.
In ordinary play, completing a game as swiftly as shown wouldn’t be feasible because the demo runs for just 10 minutes altogether. However, the demo version of Breath of the Wild on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 offers multiple save file choices. To achieve this feat, Ikaboze chose a save file, discarded Link’s gear, and made a beeline for Hyrule Castle. A video capturing this achievement is available below.
2017 saw the release of “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” alongside the original Nintendo Switch. Over the eight years since then, this Zelda game has amassed a dedicated fanbase who have honed their skills to conquer it in record-breaking time. Since “Breath of the Wild” allows players to bypass most of the game to face Calamity Ganon head-on, speedrunners have developed an enthusiasm for attempting to do so as swiftly as they can. Although Ikaboze’s feat with the demo doesn’t fully count because it skips a significant portion that needs to be played, it remains remarkable that he managed it under such strict conditions.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of “Breath of the Wild” is going to be accessible in various forms! If you already own the original Switch version, you can upgrade to an enhanced version for a fee. This upgrade offers better graphics, performance, and some new features via the Zelda Notes option on your Nintendo Switch app.
For those who subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the upgrade will be free, along with the upgrade for “Tears of the Kingdom”. Lastly, physical copies of the Nintendo Switch 2 versions will also hit the shelves.
Upon release of the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of “Breath of the Wild,” it’s intriguing to consider if this new version could attract fresh players to the game. Given that the original Switch version has sold over 34 million copies since its debut, it’s clear that many people have already played it. Yet, there’s a possibility that some novice gamers might be captivated by an enhanced version. Over the past eight years, the technical flaws of the initial Switch model garnered significant criticism, suggesting that some potential players may have been waiting for a more polished and visually appealing experience.
