Zelina Vega's Cosplay Countdown: WWE Star Brings Sailor Moon Icon to Life with Ethereal Cosplay (Exclusive)

As a long-time fan of both wrestling and all things nerdy, I can’t help but be absolutely thrilled by Zelina Vega’s latest cosplay transformation into Queen Serenity from Sailor Moon! With her elegant style and impeccable attention to detail, she truly embodies the grace and power of this iconic character.

Last week ComicBook launched a special series with WWE Superstar Zelina Vega, sharing first looks at her cosplays as the Halloween season draws closer. For those unfamiliar with Zelina, she’s a huge fan of all things nerdy. Whether it’s video games, anime or manga, she finds ways to incorporate her favorite nerdy things into her in-ring looks. This has inspired wrestlers inside and outside WWE to embrace their fandoms as well, like Mercedes Mon? (formerly WWE’s Sasha Banks).

The series started a week ago, utilizing ComicBook as a resource, where she unveiled her spectacular Tokyo Ghoul cosplay. This time around, Zelina offers her interpretation of Queen Serenity from Sailor Moon. It’s not the first occasion that she has drawn inspiration from this character; at her 2024 New Year’s Eve party, her appearance echoed the former ruler of the Moon Kingdom.

Zelina explained her choice of Queen Serenity to ComicBook for several reasons. Firstly, she admires the grace in her appearance with the silver hair. Secondly, being literally the “MOTHER” figure, she appreciates everything that stems from her and the sacrifices she made. Additionally, as the first-ever WWE Queen of the Ring, she has often cosplayed queens such as Queen Sindel from Mortal Kombat at the Royal Rumble and Queen Akasha from Queen Of The Damned, which is one of her most recognized cosplays next to Jade from Mortal Kombat and Juri from Street Fighter.

Zelina looks ethereal above the clouds in her floor-length white dress which includes the iconic crescent moon directly in the center attached to the matching white bow. Additionally, her flowing silver locks are tied up into the recognizable buns depicted both Serenity and Sailor Moon herself. Her incredible wand is her take on the Moon Wand which she says was completely custom made for her.

Assembling the dress’s bow was quite straightforward, with a crescent moon design in the center and other details. I asked Kendra, my trusted assistant, to style my hair long and shimmering silver for the occasion. The most remarkable item was undoubtedly the custom-made wand, which bears my name engraved at its base; it’s simply astonishing.

Who is Queen Serenity from Sailor Moon?

Previously mentioned, Queen Serenity hails from the Moon Kingdom, a position she held until sacrificing her life to safeguard it. Her name shares roots with the Greek goddess Selene, daughter of Titans Hyperion and Theia. Unlike the mythological Selene who was married to mortal Endymion, the Sailor Moon series introduces some creative alterations; in this universe, Prince Endymion is Princess Serenity’s companion instead.

In a fierce confrontation against Queen Metalia of the Dark Kingdom, Serenity sacrificed her life by employing the Silver Crystal to ensure everyone’s safety. Miraculously, her essence persists in the “Sailor Senshi” – essentially, the protectors of our solar system. This group consists of renowned figures like Sailor Moon, along with the inner Senshi (Mercury, Mars, Venus, and Jupiter), outer Senshi (Neptune, Pluto, Uranus, and Saturn), the Sailor Starlights, and young Sailor Chibi Moon.

If you’re keeping track via Zelina’s social media platforms, her Halloween Cosplay Adventure kicked off on September 14th with Gojo Satoru. Don’t miss out on her past and current cosplays, including her captivating Akasha from “Queen of the Damned”, by following her on X and Instagram!
