007 First Light Gameplay Showcased on PS5 Pro, Beats the “007 FPS” Allegations

When gameplay for 007 First Light was first shown last year, many viewers immediately compared it to a typical first-person shooter. Now, just weeks before the game’s release, IO Interactive has playfully confirmed that it will run at a smooth 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 5 Pro. They’ve also included a new gameplay clip to prove it.

Calling this a ‘new’ mission isn’t quite right – it’s essentially the same one shown during the State of Play Deep Dive, specifically the part where Bond sneaks into an airport, is discovered, and battles his way through enemies to reach 009’s plane. Beyond the smoother frame rate and reduced motion blur, the improvements to animations and the heads-up display are noticeable. The ‘License to Kill’ mode, which triggers intense action, now appears at the top of the screen, offering a less obstructed view.

So, what about the standard PS5 and Xbox Series X? IO Interactive has already said these consoles would have Performance and Quality modes, and now they’ve confirmed Performance mode runs at 60 frames per second, while Quality mode runs at 30. The Nintendo Switch 2 is still unknown, but since it isn’t releasing until later this summer, there’s still time to learn more.

The new James Bond game, 007 First Light, will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC starting May 27th. You can find all the details in our latest article.
