IO Interactive unveiled an extensive sneak peek at gameplay for 007 First Light during their presentation on Wednesday, offering insights into the upcoming James Bond game’s combat and stealth features, which were showcased at a PlayStation State of Play event.
The presentation is structured into two parts. The initial part features extended gameplay demos without any voiceover, while in the second part, we delve into several clips from diverse levels, with developers providing detailed explanations through narration.
Additionally, there’s an expansive introduction of the game’s cast as follows:
- James Bond – Patrick Gibson
- Greenway – Lenny James
- M – Priyanga Burford
- Q – Alastair Mackenzie
- Moneypenny – Kiera Lester
- Ms. Roth -Noémie Nakai
007 in the field
As a devoted fan, I jump right into the heart of the gameplay demo where it all starts with an extended car chase, chasing after the rogue ex-agent 009. Bond’s mission leads him to a lavish estate, while his comrades infiltrate under the aliases Mr. and Mrs. York at a special event.
Left alone to park and maintain a low profile, I find myself with various paths to choose from as I sneak into the estate. The game’s user interface (UI) alerts me of potential risks associated with different actions, such as the peril of being spotted while hanging off a balcony in broad daylight.
To create a diversion, it takes skillful timing and careful decision-making, as I employ a series of calculated moves like turning on a hose to distract a guard, snatching his forgotten lighter, setting fire to a wheelbarrow filled with hay, and making my daring leap over the railing when no one is looking.

Inside, Bond navigates through laughing maids to reach the core of the event and converse with a bartender, hinting at a time jump, possibly to avoid revealing plot details.
Later, the action resumes with Bond appearing disheveled, jumping into a vehicle in pursuit of 009, reminiscent of scenes from an Uncharted game with perilous leaps and numerous narrow escapes.
Upon 009 boarding a plane, a prolonged gunfight erupts between Bond and mercenaries/bodyguards, complete with car-explosions and destroyed scaffolding. Notably, in hand-to-hand combat, Bond can seize weapons from his enemies.
Eventually, Bond ends up on the plane before abruptly leaving it again, falling without a parachute in another thrilling Uncharted-style action scene, though the camera cuts away before we witness his landing.
Tools of the trade

Exploring the intricate details of the gameplay, it’s evident that the creators are skillfully blending the strategic elements that characterized their past Hitman series with the action and advanced gadgetry synonymous with James Bond.
In this new adventure, 007 carries a watch armed with a laser beam to dismantle chandeliers or momentarily incapacitate adversaries for an upper hand. Remarkably, numerous objects in the surroundings can be transformed into weapons, ranging from toppling crates to billiard balls.
Though weapons are accessible, there’s a strong suggestion that violence should typically be avoided, with a focus on outsmarting opponents when Bond finds himself in restricted zones.
Moreover, players will discover multiple strategies for completing certain objectives beyond stealth and combative tactics. As an illustration, we see Bond presented with three distinct chances to locate a camera while disguised as a photojournalist.
Fans won’t have to endure the wait until late 2026 to uncover more, as 007 First Light is scheduled for launch on March 27, 2026 across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Preorders for the game are now available on various platforms, including Amazon. Furthermore, in addition to the standard $70 game, a collector’s edition priced at $300 is being offered, which comes complete with a replica Golden Gun.
