The release of the new James Bond game, 007 First Light, has been pushed back, so players will have to wait longer to step into the shoes of 007. Many James Bond games have been made over the years, with GoldenEye 007 being a particularly well-remembered title. However, subsequent games haven’t quite lived up to that success. During Daniel Craig’s time as James Bond, Activision published several new games featuring his likeness. While some, like 007 Blood Stone, were enjoyable, the series ultimately faltered with the poorly received 007 Legends. Following that disappointment, the game’s owners decided to halt further development of James Bond games.
After years without a new James Bond game, IO Interactive is stepping in with 007 First Light, a fresh take that explores Bond’s early days. The game will reveal previously untold parts of his backstory with an original narrative, and actor Patrick Gibson will portray the iconic spy. Lenny Kravitz is also joining the cast as a villain. 007 First Light aims to combine the gameplay style of IO Interactive’s Hitman series with the thrilling action fans expect from James Bond. Originally planned for a March release, the game is now expected slightly later.
007 First Light Delayed to May 2026
IO Interactive has announced a delay for their upcoming game, 007 First Light. Originally scheduled for release on March 26th, 2026, the game will now launch on May 27th, 2026. The studio says the game is already fully playable, and this extra time will be used to further refine and polish the experience, ultimately ensuring a stronger launch and long-term success. This seems like a sensible decision, and the two-month delay shouldn’t be a major inconvenience for players – it should result in a more polished final product.
An important update regarding the release date of 007 First Light.

It’s interesting that 007 First Light is now scheduled to release around the same time GTA 6 was originally planned before its delay. This likely gives the developers at IO Interactive more confidence in their release timing and allows their game to stand out a bit more. While it remains to be seen if the game will be a success, 007 First Light currently looks very promising.
