The original movie in the series is now available to watch for free online, and fans are thrilled about it.
Starting December 1st, you’ll be able to watch the classic horror film The Silence of the Lambs, starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, on Tubi for free. The movie is joining Tubi’s streaming library and is expected to be a popular addition.
Jonathan Demme directed The Silence of the Lambs, based on a screenplay by Ted Tally and the 1981 novel by Thomas Harris. The film stars Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling, an FBI trainee brought in to interview the brilliant but dangerous Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Officially, the goal is to gain insight from Lecter, but the real purpose is to help catch another serial killer called Buffalo Bill.
Throughout The Silence of the Lambs, Clarice and Lecter develop a complex connection that goes beyond a simple hunter-and-killer dynamic. The film also features strong performances from Ted Levine as Jame “Buffalo Bill” Gumb, Anthony Heald as Doctor Frederick Chilton, and Scott Glenn as Jack Crawford, alongside Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins.
When The Silence of the Lambs came out in 1991, it was a huge success in theaters, boosted by its popular lead actors. The film earned over $272.7 million during its initial release, despite only costing $19 million to make.
The film received numerous industry award nominations and won 22, including five Academy Awards. Currently, The Silence of the Lambs has a remarkable 95% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 150 critic reviews.
The Legacy of The Silence of the Lambs — Explained
Since The Silence of the Lambs came out, two sequels and a prequel have been made. It’s worth noting that Manhunter, released in 1986 and based on Thomas Harris’s novel Red Dragon, came before The Silence of the Lambs, but is also part of the series.
The popular franchise grew to include several TV shows. These included Hannibal, which revisited the stories from Red Dragon and Hannibal Rising, and Clarice from 2021, picking up after The Silence of the Lambs. Hannibal quickly gained a dedicated fanbase, but was unfortunately canceled after its first season.
The Silence of the Lambs will be available for streaming on Tubi beginning Dec. 1.
