For decades, the Avengers have been the main line of defense against universal threats in the Marvel Universe. Their success comes from assembling a team of incredibly powerful and skilled heroes. While not all members are equally strong, many Avengers possess truly amazing abilities. This can be tricky, though, as some of the most powerful heroes aren’t always the most stable. In fact, several Avengers have the potential to cause massive destruction, even on a planetary scale, if they lost control.
The Avengers have faced countless threats and always managed to save the world and redeem even their fallen teammates. Despite their successes, a few Avengers possess such immense power that they could actually destroy the Earth if they chose to. Here are ten Avengers who are capable of planet-level destruction.
10) The Hulk

The Hulk is arguably the strongest character in the Marvel Universe, known for his incredible destructive power and battles with nearly every major hero. While he’s often seen fighting against the Avengers, he was actually one of the team’s original members and played a role in recent storylines. The Hulk is a truly frightening figure, capable of planetary destruction if provoked. He’s demonstrated this potential in different forms – notably as the “World-Breaker” and, as seen in The Immortal Hulk #25, a cosmic entity I call the “Entropy Hulk” – a being of immense power who travels the universe destroying planets with a single blow. Simply put, the Hulk embodies pure rage and power, and it wouldn’t take much to unleash his full, planet-destroying potential.
9) Thor

Thor, the God of Thunder, is one of the most powerful Avengers. He’s capable of defeating almost any opponent and, if he wanted to, could even destroy the Earth. He controls storms, meaning he could flood cities with ease and call down devastating lightning. But he wouldn’t even need to do that – his hammer, Mjolnir, contains a unique energy called “anti-energy” capable of planet-destroying blasts. Simply put, Thor is incredibly powerful, and if he ever turned evil, he’d have the ability to obliterate the Earth.
8) Rogue

As a huge comic book and movie fan, I’ve always found Rogue fascinating. While most people know her as an X-Man, she’s actually been part of several Avengers teams, even leading one at one point! But let me tell you, if Rogue ever went rogue, she’d be a terrifying threat. Her power – absorbing other people’s abilities – is the key. Imagine her taking the powers of every superhuman on Earth! We’re talking world-ending levels of power. She’s already proven how strong she can get; she once absorbed enough power to lift a Celestial, which is basically a planet-sized being! At that strength, she could literally rip continents apart. Honestly, Rogue is way more powerful than people realize, and if given the chance, she’d be incredibly dangerous.
7) Captain Universe

Jonathan Hickman’s work on the Avengers was exceptional, leading to the creation of what many consider the strongest Avengers team ever assembled. The team’s most powerful member was Captain Universe, a unique take on a familiar Marvel hero. While several characters had previously held the title, granting them cosmic abilities, this Captain Universe was truly extraordinary – the universe itself inhabiting the body of a woman in a coma. This version of Captain Universe possessed virtually unlimited power, capable of feats like creating black holes, drastically altering gravity, and unleashing blasts powerful enough to destroy planets, easily surpassing anything Earth could withstand.
6) Namor

Namor is an incredibly powerful Avenger, but he couldn’t destroy the Earth single-handedly. His real power comes from being king of Atlantis, a highly advanced civilization. With his armies and the ability to create massive waves, he could wipe out coastal cities – where most people live – and then conquer the rest of the world. While he wouldn’t shatter the planet, he could destroy all life on it.
5) Iron Man

Iron Man’s incredible technological skills and vast resources make him capable of building weapons powerful enough to destroy planets. He previously collaborated with other geniuses like Mister Fantastic and Black Panther to design planet-destroying warheads, and he retains the ability to do so. Essentially, his intelligence allows him to create numerous doomsday devices, posing a significant threat to Earth.
4) Storm

Storm is best known as an X-Man, but she’s also been an Avenger on multiple occasions. Widely regarded as a goddess due to her incredible control over the weather, Storm possesses immense power over the planet. She’s capable of creating devastating storms that could wipe out civilizations, and can even manipulate electromagnetic energy to cause widespread destruction. While completely destroying Earth would be a challenge, Storm is powerful enough to potentially do so.
3) Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch is frequently called the most powerful Avenger, and there’s some truth to that, but it’s also an oversimplification. While she’s done incredibly powerful things – like stripping millions of mutants of their powers and reshaping reality – she was amplified by a massive energy source called the Life Force at the time. Even without that boost, Scarlet Witch remains a formidable magic user with the ability to warp reality, making her a potential threat to the entire planet. Her teammates are rightfully wary, as a complete emotional breakdown could have catastrophic consequences for the world.
2) The Sentry

The Sentry is incredibly powerful, arguably one of the most dangerous people on Earth. He gained the power of a million exploding suns, but this immense energy fractured his mind, creating a dangerous alter ego called the Void. This makes the Sentry exceptionally formidable – capable of planetary destruction, which is why he’s such a feared member of the Avengers. In fact, an alternate storyline explored what would happen if the Void won during the Siege event, and the result was complete annihilation. The Sentry’s power is immense and should never be underestimated.
1) Hyperion of Earth-13034

Hyperion, a powerful hero from a destroyed universe, became an Avenger. He’s incredibly strong – essentially the equivalent of Superman – and could easily obliterate Earth. He could do it by collecting asteroids from the belt between Earth and Mars and throwing them at the planet, a task that would take less time than the round trip to gather them. His immense power and heroic nature quickly made him a close ally of Thor.
