Few things in anime are as beloved as a character’s powerful transformation. These moments are almost always filled with exciting action, and when timed well, they can quickly become legendary.
Anime transformations often create a lot of excitement, but the most memorable moments happen when a character reaches their final, most powerful form. These transformations are usually spectacular, and some are considered the very best in anime history.
10) Ultimate Madoka (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)

The final moments of Puella Magi Madoka Magica see Madoka make her wish: to gain the power to stop magical girls from ever becoming Witches. This wish fundamentally changes the universe, turning Madoka into Ultimate Madoka, a powerful, god-like being who represents the very idea of fate and endless repetition.
Even though Ultimate Madoka is straightforward, it beautifully portrays Madoka’s powerful, godlike form and her unwavering kindness. With the final Puella Magi Madoka Magica movie on the way, we can look forward to seeing even more of what Ultimate Madoka is capable of.
9) Ash-Greninja (Pokémon the Series: XY)

In Pokémon the Series: XY, Ash and his Pokémon, Greninja, developed a special connection. When they were perfectly synchronized, Greninja could transform into a more powerful form called Ash-Greninja, using an ability known as the Bond Phenomenon. However, this power came with a cost: Ash would experience any pain Greninja felt during battles.
Ash-Greninja wasn’t just a visually impressive fusion of Ash and Greninja; it perfectly reflected their journey as characters and established them as an incredibly powerful duo. Although the anime appears to be trying to ignore it now, Ash-Greninja remains a memorable and significant transformation.
8) Gold Experience Requiem (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

At the end of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind arc, Giorno obtained the Arrow and used it to unlock a more powerful form of his Stand, Gold Experience, called Gold Experience Requiem. This new ability allowed Giorno to cancel out anything, even death itself, which ultimately led to Diavolo’s defeat and brought an end to his destructive rule.
Some fans argue that Gold Experience Requiem appeared a bit too conveniently, like a ‘deus ex machina.’ However, its awesome design and the satisfying way it defeated Diavolo more than make up for that. It’s become one of the most recognizable Stands in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and it’s likely to stay that way for a long time.
7) Alucard Level Zero (Hellsing Ultimate)

I watched as the final battles of Hellsing Ultimate unfolded, with both Millennium and the Vatican closing in on London. It was at this point that Alucard was finally given the go-ahead to activate Level Zero of his Control-Restriction System. It was incredible – it didn’t just unlock his full vampiric strength and give him even greater command over his familiars, but it also seemed to revert him physically, making him look more like the historical Vlad the Impaler.
I’d been anticipating Level Zero for a long time, and it absolutely delivered. The action was incredibly intense and violent, but it also gave us a deep dive into Alucard’s past. What really surprised me was how much humanity they showed in Alucard, despite him always wanting to be the most powerful being around. Level Zero really captured that core part of his personality.
6) Final Getsuga Tensho (Bleach)

In the anime Bleach, after Aizen gained immense power by merging with the Hogyoku, the only way to beat him was for Isshin to teach Ichigo a special technique called the Final Getsuga Tensho. This technique would combine Ichigo with his inner spirit, Zangetsu, making him stronger than Aizen, but it would also mean Ichigo would lose his spiritual abilities forever.
The Final Getsuga Tensho isn’t just visually impressive, especially for a series like Bleach – it was incredibly satisfying to finally see Ichigo defeat Aizen so completely, as fans had been waiting for that moment for a long time. While this powerful attack probably won’t happen again, it’s hard to deny that it represents Ichigo at his absolute strongest in Bleach.
5) Omnimon (Digimon)

I’ve always been impressed by Omnimon – it’s considered one of the most powerful Digimon around. It first appeared when WarGreymon and Metal Garurumon combined their power through a process called DNA Digivolution to take down Diaboromon in Digimon Adventure: Our War Game. Since then, it’s become a really common sight in pretty much everything Digimon – the anime series, the video games, you name it.
Omnimon immediately established itself as a uniquely powerful Digimon, and it consistently maintains that impression in every appearance. With its striking design and commanding presence, it’s no surprise Omnimon is one of the most recognizable Digimon in the entire series.
4) Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)

In the movie version of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Team Dai-Gurren’s ultimate mecha, the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, initially failed to beat the Anti-Spiral and was quickly overwhelmed. However, they didn’t surrender. With assistance from Lordgenome and a surge of Spiral Power, they created an even more massive mecha called Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
Although it was brief, the ‘Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann’ sequence brilliantly captured the core spirit of Gurren Lagann – its incredibly dynamic and constantly escalating action. It also served as a fitting and powerful tribute to the character of Kamina. Many fans consider the Gurren Lagann movies superior to the original anime series, and ‘Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann’ was a key reason for that improvement.
3) Baryon Mode (Boruto: Naruto Next Generations)

During the peak of the Kawaki Arc in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, the villain Isshiki Otsutsuki was dying but still incredibly powerful, making it nearly impossible to prevent him from taking Kawaki. To help Naruto, Kurama sacrificed himself to give Naruto access to Baryon Mode, a powerful new transformation that exceeded Isshiki’s abilities.
It was exciting to see Naruto reach a new level of power after the original series, and Baryon Mode looked fantastic. Even though it only appeared once in Boruto, it quickly became a memorable and important part of the story’s best fight scenes.
2) Gear 5 (One Piece)

As a huge One Piece fan, I was absolutely blown away when Luffy seemingly died fighting Kaido, only to come back even stronger! Not only did he revive, but he unlocked the true potential of his Devil Fruit! Turns out the Gum-Gum Fruit wasn’t what we thought – it’s actually the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika! This awakened form is incredible – a totally white transformation that everyone’s quickly calling Gear 5. It’s a game-changer!
Gear 5 is arguably the best nod to Dragon Ball that One Piece has ever done. By transforming Luffy into a classic cartoon character, it beautifully connects the series to its original, fun spirit while still maintaining a powerful and intimidating edge. It’s no surprise that Gear 5 has become such a memorable and iconic transformation in anime.
1) Ultra Instinct (Dragon Ball Super)

In the Tournament of Power arc of Dragon Ball Super, Goku struggled to master Ultra Instinct – a state of heightened awareness and incredible strength – frequently shifting in and out of it. However, during his climactic fight with Jiren, he finally achieved the form’s full potential, which turned his hair a striking silver color.
Introducing a new transformation for Goku is always a major event, and Dragon Ball Super really delivered with Ultra Instinct. Not only did it look amazing, but it felt like a natural culmination of Goku’s entire journey. Dragon Ball is famous for making transformations popular in anime, so it’s fitting that it would create what many consider to be the best final form ever seen in the medium.
