Yuki Tabata’s popular Shonen Jump manga, “Black Clover,” premiered as an anime in 2017 and ran for a total of 170 episodes until 2021. Despite the trend of long-running series gradually decreasing in the current anime industry, it was initially introduced as such. Both the manga and anime released new installments each week until the studio ultimately concluded the series, coming close to matching the manga’s content. The delay in the anime’s continuation was exacerbated by the fact that the manga shifted to a quarterly publication under “Jump GIGA” starting from December 2023, which hindered the story’s advancement even further. Fans were anticipating the release of the next season soon after this transition, but it wasn’t until July 2025 that the announcement for Season 2 was made, marking a wait of four years.
Excitedly speaking as a devoted fan, even though we’re nearing the end of the manga, the anime is yet to delve into the thrilling Spade Kingdom Raid and the concluding arcs – the most gripping parts of the story! These segments focus on the intense battles against the denizens of the Spade Kingdom, followed by the aftermath. Although Season 2 has been announced, there’s still a considerable wait before its release. So, in the interim, these next 10 episodes will certainly keep us all engaged and eager for more!
10) Episode 49
Title: Beyond Limits
In the Seabed Temple Arc, the Black Bulls encountered their toughest foe yet. It required the combined efforts of an entire team of Magic Knights just to scratch the surface against Vetto and his followers. But as victory seemed imminent, Vetto revealed a shadowy and menacing power that threatened their very existence.
As Yami Sukehiro watched his team battle against such a powerful monster, his worry grew with each passing second, given their lack of experience. In a critical moment, he unleashed a new spell that could slice through dimensions. To everyone’s surprise, it only took one swift strike to eliminate one of the Eye of the Midnight Sun’s top members. With this powerful attack, Yami not only secured victory for his team but also gained admiration from both his comrades and fans.
9) Episode 80
Title: Special Little Brother vs. Failed Big Brother
As an onlooker, I’ve always appreciated the thrilling Tournament Arcs in Shonen series, and the Royal Knights Arc is no exception. It seems that in a bid to uplift the spirits of the citizens, Julius has proposed a Royal Knight Selection Exam – a competition where gifted Magic Knights demonstrate their prowess and vie for a spot on the team destined to confront the Eye of the Midnight Sun. While Finral Roulacase undoubtedly possesses remarkable Spatial Magical abilities, it appears his talents primarily lie in supporting his fellow knights rather than inflicting damage directly upon adversaries.
In contrast to him, Langris Vaude, the Vice-Captain of the Golden Dawn and step-brother, is cherished within the household like a source of pride. Yet, there seems to be a dark secret lurking within him, compelling him to plot against his own brother’s life. Disregarding the rules, the Black Bulls intervene swiftly and manage to rescue their comrade from danger in an instant.
8) Episode 84
Title: The Victors
Initially, Yuno was eager to battle Asta, his main competitor during the Selection Exam. However, it wasn’t Asta he encountered but rather Rill Boismortier, Captain of Aqua Deer. It seemed that Rill didn’t know about the rule prohibiting Magic Knight Squad Captains from participating, as he joined under a false name. The Captains are among the kingdom’s most potent mages, and it’s unheard-of for one to go head-to-head with a novice commoner like Asta.
In Episode 84, Yuno demonstrates his full potential for the first time using Spirit Dive. Despite fighting against Rill for their respective teams, the confrontation turned into a personal showcase of their abilities. As both sides geared up to launch powerful attacks, unfortunately, Rill shatters his crystal and is disqualified, resulting in Yuno’s team emerging victorious by default.
7) Episode 91
Title: Mereoleona vs. Raia the Disloyal
For a while, Mereoleona Vermillion stood in as the Crimson Lion squad’s captain, as her brother Fuegoleon lay unconscious. Known for her bold nature, she didn’t waste time to demonstrate why she was well-known. The Royal Knights swiftly seized control of the enemy hideout, and Mereoleona crossed paths with Raia, a member of the Third Eye who had lost her loyalty.
Regardless of his immense strength and vast array of spells, Mereoleona effortlessly dominated him in their battle. Each attack he launched seemed to have no effect on her. The fight was essentially a one-man show with Raia rapidly shifting from offense to defense, left in awe by Mereoleona’s incredible power and reckless behavior.
6) Episode 93
Title: Julius Novachrono
Most Magic Knights embarked on an attack against the enemy base, but the Wizard King remained in the Royal Capital. It seems quite likely that Julius was already aware of William’s treachery. The leader of the Golden Dawn has been secretly harboring two identities, constantly wrestling with his genuine self and the malevolent spirit inhabiting his being.
Eventually, Licht (later identified as Patri) assumed control over the host’s body and engaged in a fierce battle with Julius. This confrontation pitted the presumed leader of the Eye of the Midnight Sun against the Wizard King, with Julius maintaining the advantage throughout. It wasn’t until two years after the anime’s debut that viewers discovered the full extent of his powers. Despite having the situation under control, Julius yielded when he understood that his adversary was threatening the entire kingdom. As a consequence of storing his magic in an ancient relic, Julius suffered a lethal wound and transformed back into his child form.
5) Episode 100
Title: We Won’t Lose to You
In this significant episode of the series, emotions run high as events take a turn for the worse. Several Magic Knights are overtaken by elves, gaining increased magical abilities. Among them is Klaus Lunettes, causing trouble for both Asta and Mimosa Vermillion. Matters become even more complicated when Yuno acquires an elf-like mark on his face and pointy ears. Yet, against all odds, he manages to free himself from the forbidden spell and aids Asta and Mimosa in their struggle.
In due course, complications surface as Licht, the authentic elf leader, stirs from his sleep. Before the boys could comprehend the situation, he snatches Asta’s Demon Dweller sword from him. Despite witnessing Licht’s manga that surpassed all they had ever experienced, they remained resolute in their defiance against a being bordering on divinity. This episode serves as a testament to why Asta and Yuno are recognized among the top duos in Shonen, and the anime effectively conveyed the intensity of the battle.
4) Episode 118
Title: A Reunion Across Space and Time
Originally, the elves were a tranquil community. However, due to the wicked plots of the malevolent Zagred, they transformed into tormentors of the innocent centuries after their demise. Prior to Limiel Silvamillion Clover’s arrival, there was no effort made to connect the elves with humans as they lived in isolation for ages. Later, Limiel would be renowned as the first Wizard King for vanquishing a merciless demon, but their tale was steeped in more sorrow than triumph.
Immediately following the battle, Secre Swallowtail imprisoned him within a statue, dreaming that he might awaken on a suitable day. This segment not only offers insights into the sorrowful past of elves Limiel and his sister Tetia, but it also showcases the much-anticipated confrontation with Zagred.
3) Episode 151
Title: Clash! The Battle of the Magic Knights Squad Captains
The brave Magic Knights risked it all to safeguard the Clover Kingdom against both elves and demons. Yet, due to many being overtaken by an unknown force causing chaos within the kingdom, even assaulting innocent civilians, the public’s trust in the Magic Knights began to falter. Additionally, the Clover Kingdom endured significant casualties during the conflict, a setback that would demand considerable effort and time to recover from.
To reassure the public’s concerns, Julius proposed a playful contest among the team captains, reminiscent of the Royal Knights Selection Test. Despite its intended casual nature, the competitive spirit of the captains escalated, resulting in an exhilarating demonstration of power from the Kingdom’s top-tier individuals. This episode is renowned as one of the most spectacular in the series, featuring intricate fight sequences and visually stunning transitions.
2) Episode 161
Title: Zenon’s Power
In a remarkably short period, Yuno swiftly advanced within his role as Vice Captain, and managed to maintain friendly relationships with his teammates despite their initial disdain towards him. Despite concealing his emotions effectively, he eventually grew attached to them after spending so much time together.
However, it was the formidable Zenon Zogratis who brought down the most elite squad in the kingdom. In a shocking turn of events, Zenon decimated half of the team and abducted their captain as part of a more intricate plan.
Upon reaching Golden Dawn following the distressing event, I found my comrades in a wretched state that ignited my anger. Despite fighting alongside the devil’s horde with unwavering determination, I was ultimately left for dead. This harrowing episode underscores one of the most heart-wrenching tragedies within the series. Overpowered by Zenon, it forced me to confront my limitations and intensified my resolve to seek greater power still.
1) Episode 167
Title: Black Oath
As Zenon assaulted the Golden Dawn, his brother Dante targeted the Black Bulls, specifically their captain. The squad fought back fiercely against the hordes of evil, with Asta joining forces with Yami to subdue Dante. After a brief respite, the Black Bulls celebrated the end of the threat. Yet, just as they relaxed, Zenon appeared and captured Yami. Alongside him was William, also in a precarious situation.
In spite of their wounds, the Black Bulls put forth their utmost effort to rescue Yami, yet unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Zenon manages to depart from the location along with both Magic Knight Captains and his brother, thereby establishing the foundation for the Spade Kingdom Raid storyline.
