DC Comics’ iconic heroes quickly made the jump to video games, starting with the 1979 Atari 2600 game Superman – the very first superhero game ever made. Since then, many DC games have been released, with varying degrees of success. We’ve sifted through them all to bring you a list of the ten best, but we’ve limited ourselves to one game per franchise – otherwise, the Arkham series would take over the entire list! These ten were chosen based on how popular they are, what critics and fans thought, and, most importantly, how enjoyable they are to play.
10) LEGO DC Super-Villains

I picked up LEGO DC Super-Villains when it came out in 2018, and it was a cool change of pace from the usual LEGO Batman games. It’s a spin-off, but the big thing is you actually play as the villains! That was a first for the series. It’s got the classic two-player co-op I love in LEGO games, but they added a way to create your own character, which was a neat touch. The story is awesome – the Justice League vanishes, and suddenly we, the bad guys, have to save the world from a bunch of villains from another universe. Gameplay is pretty much what you’d expect from a LEGO game, and honestly, it was a hit with me because the story was really funny and it was just fun playing as the villains for once.
9) DC Universe Online

Released in 2011 for PC and PlayStation 3 (and later on other platforms), DC Universe Online is a free-to-play online multiplayer game set in the world of DC Comics. Instead of playing as an existing hero, you create your own unique character and team up with famous DC faces. The game had some issues at launch, but the developers have consistently updated it with new content – including stories, costumes, and gear – most recently in September 2025. It’s a fun game to get lost in, letting you fly around cities and leap across rooftops. A special note: the game features Arleen Sorkin’s last performance as Harley Quinn, before her passing in 2023.
8) Justice League: Cosmic Chaos

Don’t let the cute, cartoonish graphics of Justice League: Cosmic Chaos fool you – this is a surprisingly fun game for everyone. While it looks more like a chibi-style cartoon than a traditional DC Comics game, it’s actually quite excellent. The story centers around Mr. Mxyzptlk, who wreaks havoc in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island, and even declares himself mayor! This calls the Justice League into action to stop his mischievous plans. It’s clearly geared towards kids, but even dedicated DC Comics fans will likely have a blast playing Justice League: Cosmic Chaos.
7) Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

Released in 2008, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is the eighth main game in the Mortal Kombat series and a popular crossover title. The game features Raiden and Superman defending their worlds from invasion, which ultimately leads to a clash of villains from both universes. Players choose their favorite characters and fight using the established Mortal Kombat gameplay. Though it doesn’t have a lot of unlockable content, the game is still enjoyable thanks to its smooth controls and successful blend of DC characters into the Mortal Kombat world.
6) Batman: The Enemy Within

Released in 2017 by Telltale Games, Batman: The Enemy Within is a five-episode adventure game where players make choices that drive the story. It’s a follow-up to Batman: The Telltale Series and is often considered one of Telltale’s best games, especially considering how well they innovated the adventure game genre. Interestingly, the game had a unique issue with its second episode, “The Pact,” which had to be updated after it was discovered to include a real photograph of a murdered ambassador.
5) LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

Released in 2012, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is the follow-up to LEGO Batman: The Videogame and the second game in the series. While connected to LEGO DC Super-Villains, it’s a separate game – making it the second LEGO title on this list! The gameplay is similar to other LEGO games, filled with fun nods to DC Comics’ iconic heroes. Set in Gotham City, it boasts a large number of characters you can unlock. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes was very successful, just like the first game, and led to another sequel, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, which came out in 2014.
4) Injustice 2

Released in 2017, Injustice 2 is the follow-up to the popular fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us. The game continues the story of Batman’s fight to rebuild order after Superman’s rule falls apart. When a new group called The Society appears, Batman is forced to team up with Superman to combat them. Injustice 2 is praised for its smooth controls, engaging story, and deep character customization, blending fighting game action with RPG elements. Though successful, the game received some criticism for its use of microtransactions, a common concern in gaming.
3) The Adventures of Batman & Robin

Despite many recent DC Comics games, some of the earliest ones still stand out, especially The Adventures of Batman & Robin, which was inspired by Batman: The Animated Series. Released in 1993 for multiple consoles, the game has two particularly well-regarded versions. The Super Nintendo version looks more like the cartoon, while the Genesis version plays better. Either way, it’s a creative platformer with a compelling story that truly captures the spirit of the animated series.
2) Batman: The Video Game

Released in 1989, Batman: The Video Game is a classic and arguably one of the best Batman games ever created. Based on the popular film of the same year, this side-scrolling platformer puts you in the role of Batman as he fights to save Gotham City from the Joker. Movie-based games often disappoint, but this one still holds up for retro gaming fans. A version was also made for the Game Boy in 1990, but most players agree the original NES version is better. Although it only has five levels, it perfectly captures Batman’s moves and gadgets.
1) Batman: Arkham City

The Arkham series is widely considered to be among the best in superhero gaming, both within and beyond the DC universe. However, if we could only choose one game from the series, it had to be Batman: Arkham City from 2011. Many fans believe it’s the strongest title in the Arkham games, and it was a huge commercial success, selling over 12.5 million copies. Like the previous game, Arkham City is rich with Batman history and expands on that world in a significant way, offering a truly expansive adventure. It’s not just the best DC Comics game – it’s easily one of the greatest video games of all time, making it a clear choice for the top spot on our list.
