Few film franchises have inspired as many popular video games as Star Wars, which has been a favorite among gamers since the 1980s. The first Star Wars game, based on The Empire Strikes Back, came out for the Atari 2600 in 1982, and many more followed. We previously highlighted the ten best Star Wars games made by LucasArts, but that left out some excellent titles since LucasArts stopped operating in 2021. So, the team at ComicBook decided to create a definitive list of the top ten Star Wars games of all time, looking at titles from every publisher.
10) Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire

Released in 1996 for the Nintendo 64, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire is considered one of the best Star Wars games for that console. You play as Dash Rendar in this third-person shooter, piloting a variety of vehicles. The game takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and features familiar locations and characters across its four chapters. While it wasn’t a massive success at launch, many fans appreciate it today for its faithful depiction of the Battle of Hoth and other elements of the Star Wars universe. It’s now available on Steam and other modern devices.
9) LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Currently, there are ten LEGO Star Wars video games, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is widely considered the best. Released in 2022 as the sixth game in the series, it covers all nine Star Wars films – the entire “Skywalker Saga” – in one package for consoles and PC. Unlike previous games, players can begin with any of the three Star Wars trilogies, offering a more flexible experience. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been very popular, selling over 5 million copies since it launched.
8) Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

The Old Republic era is a fan favorite in the Star Wars universe, but it hasn’t been explored in many games. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords is widely considered one of the greatest Star Wars games ever created, continuing the story from the first game, but taking place five years later. The game truly shines thanks to its compelling story and memorable characters. It’s also been praised for how it builds on the established lore, set 4,000 years before The Phantom Menace, and its overall presentation and gameplay. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords sold over 1.5 million copies and remains highly popular with fans.
7) Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

I still remember when Star Wars: The Force Unleashed came out in 2008 – it totally changed Star Wars games for me! It was so cool getting to play as a brand new character, Galen Marek (aka Starkiller), and learning the ropes as Darth Vader’s apprentice. The story had you tracking down Jedi who survived Order 66, and the gameplay was amazing. You could unlock and improve all sorts of Force powers, letting you interact with the world in ways no other Star Wars game had before. It was a huge hit – over 9 million copies sold! While Starkiller hasn’t officially become part of the main Star Wars story yet, the game’s popularity is undeniable. It’s a classic, and I still love playing it!
6) Star Wars: Battlefront II

This refers to the original Star Wars: Battlefront II released in 2005 by LucasArts, not the 2017 Electronic Arts game. It was the second game in the Star Wars: Battlefront series and significantly improved upon the first, adding new characters, vehicles, maps, missions, and gameplay features. The game features a storyline told through the eyes of an experienced Clone Trooper as he remembers his adventures during and immediately after the Clone Wars. Star Wars: Battlefront II has been re-released and continues to be enjoyed by players, with over 6 million copies sold.
5) Star Wars: Empire at War

Most Star Wars games put you in the shoes of a single character, even if they’re involved in large battles. Star Wars: Empire at War is different – it’s a strategy game where you command entire armies across the Star Wars galaxy. You can play in one of three modes, battling both in space and on the surfaces of different planets. The game tells the story of how the Empire built the Death Star, leading up to the events of A New Hope. Released in 2006, Star Wars: Empire at War is still popular today thanks to a dedicated community that continues to create new content and improvements. It’s sold over 6.7 million copies and is a great real-time strategy game, whether you’re a Star Wars fan or not.
4) Star Wars: Jedi Survivor

Although Star Wars: Fallen Order was a big hit with a rich story and memorable characters, its sequel, Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, is even better. Jedi Survivor picks up Cal Kestis’ story (played by Cameron Monaghan) five years after the first game, with Cal continuing his fight against the Galactic Empire. Like Fallen Order, Jedi Survivor offers expansive environments, a compelling story, and excellent combat. While exact sales numbers aren’t available, Electronic Arts reports suggest the game has likely sold around 15 million copies.
3) Star Wars: TIE Fighter

Released in 1994, Star Wars: TIE Fighter is a space combat simulator and a follow-up to Star Wars: X-Wing. This time, you play as a pilot for the Empire, starting your journey after the Battle of Hoth. The game features a compelling story, even though your character doesn’t have a name. You’ll fly a TIE Fighter, and everything – from how the game plays to the graphics and sound – is a noticeable step up from the original X-Wing. While it might seem a little old-fashioned compared to today’s games, Star Wars: TIE Fighter is widely considered one of the best Star Wars games ever made, and it’s still enjoyed by fans thanks to its continued availability.
2) Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader

Released in 2001 as a Nintendo GameCube exclusive, Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader lets players experience the events of the original Star Wars trilogy. You can choose to fly as either Luke Skywalker or Wedge Antilles, two of the Rebel Alliance’s most skilled pilots. The game features ten missions across different planets, challenging you to battle the Empire and their huge fleets of starships. Praised for its impressive graphics, gameplay, and music, Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader didn’t offer multiplayer, but this wasn’t a major drawback. Many fans consider it the best game in the Rogue Squadron series, and it has sold over 2 million copies.
1) Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic

If you’re a fan of Star Wars games – and chances are, you are if you’re reading this – you probably expected Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic to be at the top of the list. This game truly changed what Star Wars video games could achieve, offering a huge, open-world adventure set 4,000 years before The Phantom Menace. Though it’s no longer considered official story canon, many fans hope it will be reincorporated into the main timeline, especially with the announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic at the 2025 Game Awards. Knights of the Old Republic continues to be enjoyed through re-releases, and despite a long-awaited remake still not appearing, it has sold over 3.2 million copies.
