Anime has become incredibly popular worldwide, with more than 100 new shows premiering every year. Because of this large volume, many great series unfortunately don’t get the attention they deserve. Some lack proper promotion, while others quickly become hits. It’s especially disappointing when a captivating anime ends without a clear resolution, and the studio doesn’t release a continuation for many years, or even at all. These lesser-known shows often feature original stories and fascinating characters that deserve to be seen and continued.
Fans wanting to know how stories end will likely have to read the original manga, though many prefer watching animation for its visuals. Popular shows like *Jujutsu Kaisen* and *Demon Slayer* consistently release new seasons, while lesser-known anime maintain a loyal following who often campaign for more episodes. While the demand might not be as huge as for major hits, these series often have the quality to draw viewers in right away.
10) The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague

I recently watched this anime from 2023 and really enjoyed it. It’s a sweet story that blends a workplace romance with a touch of the supernatural. The main character, Himuro, is a descendant of a snow spirit, which sounds cool, but it comes with a problem: whenever he gets focused, stressed, or embarrassed, he accidentally creates a blizzard! It happens on his first day at a new job, and things get pretty chaotic. Luckily, he meets Fuyutsuki, a calm and lovely coworker, who helps him get things under control.
She keeps offering Himuro-kun easy fixes to his problems, and he starts to clearly fall for her. The manga is still being released, and it continues to follow their growing relationship. It also explores the difficulties faced by others like Himuro-people with yokai or spirit ancestry who are trying to live normal lives.
9) Why Raeliana Ended Up in the Duke’s Mansion

This romance story, originally a Korean webcomic, has all the classic elements fans love: a smart and capable heroine, a handsome and helpful hero, and plenty of drama within the royal court.
The story centers around Rinko Hanasaki, who is reborn in 2023 as Raeliana McMillan, the daughter of a newly wealthy family. While she enjoys a comfortable life with loving parents and plenty of money, Raeliana soon discovers she’s a minor character in a novel and is fated to be killed by her fiancé. Determined to avoid this fate, she tries to end the engagement, but finds it surprisingly difficult. Ultimately, she’s forced to pretend to be engaged to the story’s male lead, Noah Wynknight, using a secret she knows about him. As the story progresses, the mystery surrounding the attempts on Raeliana’s life and the reason for her rebirth are slowly revealed.
8) Children of the Whales

Children of the Whales is a beautifully colorful anime, but it quickly takes a dark turn. The story doesn’t waste time revealing the frightening realities of its world.
In a future where the world is covered in sand, the last humans live on a giant floating island called the Mud Whale. This community is divided into two groups: the Marked, who have telekinetic powers but live shorter lives, and the Unmarked, who don’t have those powers. The people of the Mud Whale are isolated and unaware of what lies beyond their home, a fact that puts them in danger when outsiders with weaponized telekinetic abilities attack.
The invaders gained immense power, but at a terrible cost: they lost the ability to feel emotions, including guilt or regret, making them capable of horrific acts without hesitation. As the story progresses, unsettling secrets about the islands are revealed, forcing the remaining survivors to face a grim destiny and fight to alter their fate before time runs out.
7) Noragami

Although the *Noragami* manga finished in 2024, the anime hasn’t had a new season since 2015. Given the long wait and the significant differences between the anime and manga, a complete reboot would be more beneficial now than simply continuing with a Season 3.
The story centers around Yato, a little-known god who does small jobs for just five yen, hoping to eventually earn enough to build his own shrine. Unfortunately, problems keep finding him. His life changes when he meets Hiyori Iki, a girl who saves him from danger but ends up getting hurt herself. She soon realizes her spirit is separating from her body, and Yato offers to help – for the standard price of five yen, naturally.
6) Kamisama Kiss

I’ve noticed that *Kamisama Kiss* hasn’t had a new season in over a decade, and honestly, it’s starting to feel like it never will. The original manga finished back in 2016, which makes a continuation seem less and less likely.
This story centers on Nanami Momozono, a high school student facing a string of bad luck. Despite being homeless and in debt, she helps someone in need, and he offers her a place to stay. It turns out this place is an old shrine inhabited by spirits and a fox familiar named Tomoe, who are waiting for their master, the land god Mikage. When Mikage unexpectedly leaves, he chooses Nanami to take his place and fulfill his duties as a god. To keep a home, Nanami must embrace her new divine responsibilities and earn the loyalty of Tomoe as her familiar.
5) The Way of the Househusband

Looking for a funny and heartwarming anime with a bit of romance? Check out *The Way of the Househusband* on Netflix – it’s a hidden gem!
The series centers on Tatsu, once a feared yakuza boss nicknamed “The Immortal Dragon.” He unexpectedly leaves his criminal life behind to become a full-time homemaker, supporting his wife, Miku, who is a dedicated professional. Surprisingly, Tatsu excels at managing the household – he’s a fantastic cook, keeps everything spotless, finds the best prices at the store, and is surprisingly good with the budget.
The show is structured as a series of separate adventures, with each episode presenting funny new problems for Tatsu as he tries to run the household. Because he always acts like a tough yakuza boss, even everyday chores become dramatic and over-the-top. The original manga is still being created, but there hasn’t been any news about a third season of the anime since 2023.
4) Snow White With the Red Hair

The manga has been running since 2006, and an anime adaptation aired in two seasons-in 2015 and 2016-but a third season was never produced.
The story centers around Shirayuki, a cheerful herbalist from the kingdom of Tanbarun. When the Crown Prince decides he wants her to become his concubine, she’s forced to run away. She ends up in the neighboring kingdom of Clarines, where she encounters Prince Zen Wistalia and his companions.
After meeting Zen and a difficult run-in with the Crown Prince of Tanbarun, Shirayuki starts a new life in Clarines working as an herbalist. The story also follows Zen as he grows into the role of a prince, and explores the developing relationship between him and Shirayuki as they overcome obstacles together.
3) Stop This Sound!

Even great music-focused anime series often get overshadowed by more popular action and adventure shows. This charming high school musical drama is a good example – while it has passionate fans, the audience isn’t very big. The original manga started in 2012 and is still being released, but the anime, which aired for two seasons in 2019, hasn’t been renewed for another season.
Chika Kudou’s grandfather, a skilled koto maker, passed away after a mishap, and Chika feels responsible. Hoping to connect with his grandfather’s memory, Chika joins his high school’s Koto Club. He finds the club nearly empty, with only one member, Takezou Kurata, desperately seeking others to join. Gradually, the club grows as Chika’s lively friends and a gifted koto player named Satowa Hozuki become members. The story centers on this group of unlikely friends who discover purpose and connection through their passion for the koto.
2) Yuri!!! on Ice

Despite being incredibly popular and winning awards, a second season or follow-up movie for this Boys’ Love anime – created by MAPPA – hasn’t been announced, even after nine years. What makes it especially tough for fans is that the anime is entirely original, meaning there’s no source material like a manga or novel to continue the story.
Yuri Katsuki, a 23-year-old figure skater, is struggling after a disappointing loss at a major competition. Just when he’s unsure about his future, a video of him skating to a routine by the legendary Victor Nikiforov becomes a viral hit. Unexpectedly, Victor Nikiforov himself arrives and offers to coach Yuri, giving him a chance to compete again.
1) The Heroic Legend of Arslan

Based on a well-known historical novel from 1986, the anime adaptation first appeared in 2015 and had a second season of eight episodes in 2016. Although the original novel finished in 2017, a new season of the anime hasn’t been released. A manga version is also available and nearing completion. Despite having a compelling story, *The Heroic Legend of Arslan* hasn’t become hugely popular with audiences worldwide.
This story is inspired by ancient Persian history and legends, especially the story of Prince Arsames. It centers on Arslan, the prince and son of King Andragoras III, who is captured when his kingdom of Parsa is defeated by a ruthless army driven by religious extremism. Despite a difficult relationship with his family and questions about his origins, Arslan sets out with a small group of loyal companions to win back his kingdom and rescue his father.
