The story throws him into insane battles against all sorts of threats – Nazi vampires, terrifying ghouls, even crazed religious groups – and it’s all a fight to see who comes out on top. What really gets me is how incredibly violent and gothic the whole thing is; it just fits the show’s really deep, dark themes about power, what’s right and wrong, and how messed up humanity can be.

Compared to previous versions, Hellsing Ultimate closely follows the original manga, resulting in a stronger and more complete story. The animation is incredibly well-done, featuring amazing action scenes and a consistently creepy atmosphere. Alucard is a standout character – arrogant, charismatic, and terrifying – and easily one of the most memorable anti-heroes in anime. If you enjoy dark, supernatural action, this series is a must-see.
