Batman is DC Comics’ top crime fighter, dedicated to protecting the most dangerous city in the world. He’s a key leader among all superheroes, guiding the Justice League with Superman and Wonder Woman. Though he lacks superpowers, Batman is incredibly intelligent and resourceful, allowing him to take on even the most powerful enemies. He’s often saved the universe, and other heroes are always glad to have him fighting alongside them.
Just because these heroes work with Batman doesn’t mean they actually like him. He’s notoriously difficult to get along with, and that’s led to some real animosity. Here are ten DC heroes who genuinely dislike Batman, and the reasons why.
10) Catwoman

You might assume Catwoman is attracted to Batman, making them a classic couple. But it’s more complicated than that. While Selina Kyle and Batman have a clear connection, they’ve spent years as rivals. Selina doesn’t simply like Batman – she genuinely loves him, which is a much deeper and more challenging emotion. However, even with her love, she values her independence and doesn’t always agree with his methods or want to live by his rules. These fundamental differences in their philosophies are usually what cause problems in their relationship.
9) Supergirl

Supergirl and Batman have a complicated dynamic. While they both respect each other’s abilities as heroes, neither truly trusts the other. This lack of trust prevents them from becoming friends. Unlike Superman, who has a close bond with Batman, Supergirl hasn’t seen Batman’s more vulnerable side and doesn’t feel a need to build a closer relationship with him. They simply come from different worlds and prefer to keep their distance.
8) John Stewart

Earth has produced many impressive Green Lanterns, and John Stewart is among the best. While he’s teamed up with Batman frequently, their relationship is strained. Stewart deeply valued his friendship with Hal Jordan, and he resents the way Batman treats his friend. Furthermore, Stewart disapproves of Batman’s reliance on fear as a tactic, even though he recognizes Batman’s effectiveness in a fight. Ultimately, Stewart respects Batman’s skills but doesn’t particularly like him as a person.
7) Red Hood

Jason Todd’s story is a complicated one, making his relationship with Batman the most challenging of all the Robins. He was always the most outspoken, and his quick temper often led to conflict with his mentor. Tragically, he was killed by the Joker. When he returned to life, Jason became resentful after discovering Batman hadn’t sought revenge on the Joker. Though their bond has improved over time, Red Hood still harbors anger towards Batman for past events. It’s a difficult situation – sometimes the people we love the most are the ones we struggle with the most.
6) Hal Jordan

Hal Jordan is considered the best Green Lantern, and he was one of the original members of the Justice League. He’s worked alongside Batman for a long time, but their personalities always clashed, preventing them from becoming true friends. When Hal became the villain Parallax, Batman felt justified in his distrust. Even after Hal was resurrected and they reached a sort of understanding, they never became close. A lingering animosity remains, and it’s unlikely they’ll ever truly be friends.
5) Booster Gold

Booster Gold is a surprisingly effective hero, even though he’s often seen as self-centered. He’s always craved attention and has actively worked to become a popular figure. While he doesn’t always act responsibly and often makes mistakes – which annoys Batman – Booster has genuine respect for the Dark Knight and has consistently tried to assist him. However, their personalities clash too much for a real friendship to develop, and Booster doesn’t particularly enjoy being around Batman.
4) Lobo

Lobo isn’t exactly known for being friendly – he dislikes pretty much everyone. As a powerful and experienced bounty hunter, he’s spent years traveling the cosmos, indulging in drinking, smoking, and fighting. His only soft spot is for space dolphins! He actively hates Superman, and while he acknowledges Batman as a capable fighter, he despises everything else about him. They simply can’t stand each other and have no respect for one another.
3) Huntress

The original Huntress was Helena Wayne, the daughter of Batman and Catwoman from an alternate reality. A future version of her also appeared, but she eventually traveled to the 31st century. Helena deeply admired her father. However, the Huntress who appeared after the ‘Crisis’ event has a much more strained relationship with Batman. This Huntress, Helena Bertinelli, is the daughter of a mobster and dedicated her life to avenging his death by fighting all criminals. She’s always been a more aggressive hero than most, and Batman has often treated her harshly because of it. Helena has responded with anger, feeling rejected by Gotham’s most famous hero.
2) Azrael

As a huge Batman fan, I’ve always found Azrael to be a fascinating, if troubled, character. He was essentially trained from birth to be a weapon against evil, and that meant he was way more brutal than Batman. They initially butted heads because of that – Batman admired his fighting skills, and even let him temporarily take over after Bane crippled him. But Azrael’s methods quickly went too far when he became the new Batman, and they ended up fighting over the mantle. Now, they’re usually on the same side, but it’s a complicated relationship. Azrael respects Bruce, but all the violence they’ve inflicted on each other, and their fundamentally different approaches to fighting crime, means he doesn’t actually like him, and honestly, I can see why!
1) Guy Gardner

Guy Gardner and Batman have a long-standing rivalry and genuinely dislike each other. Guy started as a backup Green Lantern to Hal Jordan before becoming a full member of the Corps. He’s known for being difficult – boastful, quick-tempered, and always looking for a confrontation. This personality clashed with Batman’s, culminating in Batman knocking him unconscious in front of the entire Justice League. Since then, the two have remained enemies, and their mutual animosity is unlikely to ever fade.
