10 Demon Slayer Characters Who Absolutely Deserved More Screen Time Than They Got

The incredibly popular anime series, *Demon Slayer*, is known for its exciting fights, sad moments, and large number of characters. While Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke drive the main plot, the supporting characters and mentors are equally compelling. Their backgrounds, abilities, and emotional complexity suggest much deeper stories than we often see on screen. Exploring these untold narratives—whether about former powerful Demon Slayers, lost mentors, or even demons hoping for a second chance—would have made the world of *Demon Slayer* even more detailed and fascinating.

Fans feel frustrated by how little time these characters had on screen, leaving them curious about what more they could have contributed to the battle against Muzan Kibutsuji and how much more complex their stories could have been.

10) Kagaya Ubuyashiki

Kagaya, the 97th leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, is a deeply respected and caring figure who keeps the entire organization united. He’s known for his calm demeanor and treats his demon slayers like family, inspiring them to persevere in their dangerous mission. Though he carries the immense burden of leadership and a centuries-old curse—a disease said to have begun with the very first demon, Muzan—he rarely shows the strain, and others mostly perceive his strength and dignity.

While the story hinted at his brilliance as a strategist, the personal costs he bore to support the Demon Slayer Corps, and his close bonds with his family and the Hashira, these aspects could have been explored more fully to create a more gripping and emotionally resonant narrative – not just for him, but for his wife and children as well. Showing more of his work coordinating missions and navigating the Corps’ internal challenges, driven by his determination to defeat his ancestor Muzan and all demons, would have made his final scenes far more impactful.

9) Makomo & Sabito

I’m absolutely fascinated by how much impact Sakonji Urokodaki’s former students had on Tanjiro! They were so crucial to his development, really acting as guiding spirits as he prepared for the Final Selection. It’s amazing – and incredibly sad – that Tanjiro didn’t realize they *were* spirits at the time. Learning their story and what happened to them really hit me, and it drove home just how harsh and unforgiving the world of *Demon Slayer* is, and what it truly takes to become a swordsman. It’s a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made.

We don’t know much about Sabito and Giyuu’s history—their training with Urokodaki, what they were each good at, or exactly what happened before their fight with the Hand Demon. While we learn a little about Sabito through Giyuu’s feelings of guilt, a short episode focusing on their lives could have made their sacrifices—especially Sabito’s, since he died saving Giyuu—even more meaningful.

8) Kanae Kocho

Though Kanae Kocho, the late Flower Hashira and older sister of Shinobu, appears only in flashbacks, her impact on the story – especially on the lives of Shinobu and Kanao – is arguably the most significant of all the Hashira. Unlike most demon slayers, Kanae believed demons and humans could coexist, and her gentle nature shaped this belief. This is why Shinobu allowed Tanjiro and Nezuko, even though Nezuko was a demon, to stay at the Butterfly Mansion.

It would be fascinating to see more of Kanae’s time as a Hashira, especially how she worked with her team and used her positive attitude in battle, along with details about her unique breathing style. Her fight against Upper Rank Two, Doma, was a significant event that deserves to be fully shown. Currently, all we see of her death is through Shinobu’s perspective – finding Kanae after she’d already been fatally wounded.

7) Murata

Murata is a Demon Slayer who isn’t very high-ranking, and he keeps bumping into Tanjiro. Despite being an average fighter, he’s surprisingly lucky and always manages to survive. He often provides comic relief, and is a good example of what most Demon Slayers are like – a normal person thrown into a dangerous and frightening world, making his determination and efforts feel very real and relatable.

Murata is a rare lower-rank Demon Slayer that fans genuinely care about, and he’s become quite popular within the fanbase. Showing him actively fighting or even just surviving smaller battles would help illustrate the constant, everyday work that keeps the Demon Slayer Corps functioning.

6) Aoi Kanzaki

Aoi is a vital part of the Demon Slayer Corps, working closely with Shinobu at the Butterfly Mansion to help injured slayers recover. Though she doesn’t fight battles herself, Aoi’s unwavering dedication to the Corps demonstrates her bravery and commitment. Her skills as a caretaker and medic are invaluable – Tanjiro and his friends truly owe their lives to her tireless work, and likely wouldn’t have survived without it.

We know very little about her past – what led her to join the Corps or what her training was like. It would be fascinating to see scenes showing her and the other women supporting the slayers, especially to learn more about her unique abilities within the Corps and how she handles the emotional challenges of her work.

5) Lady Tamayo & Yushiro

Tamayo, a remarkably kind and intelligent demon doctor, and her steadfast assistant, Yushiro, become crucial allies to Tanjiro, Nezuko, and ultimately, all of the Demon Slayer Corps. Her deep understanding of Muzan, how demons function, and the effects of poisons gave the Corps a fighting chance against him before they reached the Infinity Castle. Tamayo’s quiet strength and commitment to finding a cure, combined with Yushiro’s fierce loyalty and powerful abilities, make them a truly special and compelling duo.

Honestly, I’d *love* to learn more about Tamayo and Yushiro’s history! Knowing Tamayo used to be one of the very first demons, and seeing how she actually *became* such an incredible doctor, would be amazing. Plus, imagining all the times they had to carefully plan and move around to stay hidden from Muzan, and especially how she figured out a way to potentially reverse demon transformations… that would have really highlighted just how vital they were to winning the final battle. It would have made their contributions feel even more impactful, you know?

4) Makio

Makio is one of Tengen Uzui’s wives and a skilled ninja who demonstrates her courage and strength during the Entertainment District arc. She’s known for her direct personality and effective fighting abilities, making her a valuable member of the Sound Hashira’s group.

The story only briefly mentioned her background as a ninja and her past with Tengen and his other wives, mostly through Tengen explaining where they came from. Showing more of her skills as a spy or exploring her life before marrying Tengen would have better highlighted her independence and strength.

3) Suma

Suma, one of Tengen Uzui’s wives, often provides comic relief through her worries and over-the-top reactions. However, she’s also a remarkably loyal and capable ninja, fully prepared to risk everything to protect those she cares about, including her husband.

Letting her demonstrate her ninja abilities and courage consistently, not just when she’s scared, would help her become a more fully realized character. Showing how she feels about the risks they face, and deepening her relationships with Makio and Hinatsuru, would make their team and family feel more connected and meaningful.

2) Hinatsuru

Hinatsuru, one of Tengen Uzui’s three wives, is known for being the most calm and thoughtful of the group—and is considered Tengen’s favorite. She was crucial in helping Tengen and Tanjiro survive the fight in the Entertainment District, thanks to her quick thinking, skill with weapons, and unwavering determination. Her quiet strength balances out her husband’s more outgoing personality.

Understanding her history – especially her commitment to the ninja way and how she learned to fight with a Hashira and two other female ninjas – reveals how she became such a skilled warrior while still maintaining her kindness. Despite living in a harsh and dangerous world, she never lost her inherent goodness.

1) Genya Shinazugawa

Genya’s story is a powerful exploration of perseverance and heartbreaking loss. He’s different from other demon slayers – he gains temporary demon-like strength by eating demon flesh, but can’t use traditional breathing techniques, which makes him an outsider. A key part of his struggles comes from his difficult relationship with his older brother, Sanemi, the Wind Hashira, and the emotional pain it causes.

Viewers only get a glimpse of Muichiro’s intense training with Gyomei and his difficult journey to become a strong Demon Slayer without relying on typical swords. Showing more of his relationships with other slayers, his efforts to mend things with Sanemi, and the physical strain his unique abilities cause would make his already compelling and tragic story even more powerful.
